GENERAL
 
As jockeys N Callow and J Murphy were unable to attend the meeting due to injuries and personal reasons, replacements were made as per raceday summary.
 
As T Berry was unable to make the first race due to his flight times, permission was granted for J Stanley to replace him as the rider of SIR GRACE (NZ).
 
Race 1: MILNE BROS COUNTRY CUP BM60 HCP - 1600M
 
WORD FROM ABOVE – Slow to begin and raced wide in the early stages. Jockey A Butler stated that his mount was very one paced throughout the event and although the gelding had travelled wide initially, he expected WORD FROM ABOVE to finish its race off in a better manner and was disappointed with the effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
SETHLANS – Passing the 200m was hampered and forced into the running rail for a number of strides by BOLD SPLENDOUR who attempted to improve into a run when there was insufficient room. At a subsequent inquiry, apprentice B Wheelers license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days to commence on midnight 17/5/24 and to expire on midnight 27/5/24.
 
ROY'S ROAD – Held up for clear running until a point near the 350m.
 
BOLD SPLENDOR – Disappointed for a run passing the 500m between WORD FROM ABOVE and ROY’S ROAD. Held up for clear running upon entering the home straight until a point near the 200m and then shortly after attempted to improve into a run when there was insufficient room to do so contacting SETHLANS and causing BOLD SPLENDOR to be checked.
 
RUFFIN' IT (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 2: LEXUS ROCKY AMATEURS CUP OPEN HCP - 1600M
 
FIGHTING COMMANDO – Held up for clear running entering the home straight. Had to be steadied off heels approaching the 200m when attempting to improve into clear running.
 
MOMACK – When questioned regarding the performance, apprentice B Johnson stated that her mount pulled hard during the event and felt like he raced like a fresh horse. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
ENUFF HE SAID – Jockey M Rodd reported that his intentions weren’t to settle so far forward, however after his mount began well, he elected to make use of his position and obtain a position outside the lead.
 
DEVIL KICK – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
KOTABHARU – When questioned regarding the performance, jockey L Tilley reported that his mount travelled well but when he asked the mare for an effort, she failed to respond and went to the line in a disappointing manner. Trainer G Green reported to stewards that following the performance, KOTABHARU would now be leaving his stable. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
Race 3: KNIGHT FRANK AGRIBUSINESS QTIS 3YO HCP - 1100M
 
DOUBTING EYE – Passing the 400m became awkward in its stride after racing tightly on the rail.
 
BOLD COMIC – Bounded on jumping. Bumped with SUNNYCOAST near the 350m when attempting to improve into clear running. Lost its off-fore plate during the event.
 
SPIRIT OF BRODIE – Raced wide throughout. Bumped with the hindquarters of SUNNYCOAST near the 350m. Hampered passing the 100m and then became awkwardly placed on the heels of CHERRY ROSE over the concluding stages.
 
SUNNYCOAST – Hampered on jumping. Near the 350m was taken out by BOLD COMIC and bumped with the hindquarters of SPIRIT OF BRODIE and as a result was buffeted for a number of strides. As a result of this incident, SUNNYCOAST lost significant ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
SUNSHINE HIGHWAY – Jumped awkwardly and bumped SUNNYCOAST. Pulled hard rounding the home turn.
 
CHERRY ROSE – Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight until improving into a run between the weakening SUNNYCOAST and BOLD COMIC near the 350m. Bumped slightly with SPIRIT OF BRODIE over the concluding stages.
 
Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to a Good (4).
 
Race 4: CLARK RUBBER BM70 HCP - 1100M
 
MAMARAGAN – Difficulty obtaining clear running from entering the home straight until approaching the 400m. Apprentice B Johnson was reminded of her obligations to ride her mount out to the finish.
 
MOENAVE – Bumped on jumping with SANTORINI SUMMER. Obliged to alter course near the 300m and had to shift out to improve into clear running.
 
DIVINE OKAY – After being held up for clear running from the 400m attempted to shift out, and when doing so contacted WATERWORLD resulting in DIVINE OKAY becoming awkward in its stride.
 
WATERWORLD – Raced wide throughout. Bumped passing the 400m and was momentarily inconvenienced shortly after.
 
LATENIGHTTOUGHGUY – Raced wide throughout.
 
BARNEY RABBLE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
POET'S GIRL – Stood flatfooted and was slow to begin.
 
SHADOWEN – Raced wide throughout.
 
SANTORINI SUMMER – Bumped on jumping with MOENAVE.
 
Race 5: REO HEAVY EQUIPMENT REPAIRS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HCP - 1050M
 
The start of this race was delayed due to the late arrival of REGALO D’ORO and GOLD REVOLUTION. Trainer L Cronan was reprimanded under AR194.
 
FIGHT IN THE DOG – Raced in restricted room for a number of strides near the 400m.
 
REGALO D’ORO – Near the 900m had to check to avoid the heels of NOUVERRE FILLE (V Duric) which shifted in when insufficiently clear. At a subsequent inquiry, jockey V Duric license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 days to commence midnight 4/5/24 and to expire midnight 10/5/24.
 
SEIRYU – Bumped on jumping with ELESPRIT MISS.
 
NOUVERRE FILLE – Bounded on jumping.
 
TOY BLAZE – As J Murphy was unable to attend the meeting and no senior rider could be sourced for a replacement, stewards permitted apprentice T Fenlon to replace him as the rider.
 
ELESPRIT MISS – Jumped away awkwardly contacting SEIRYU. Apprentice B Wheeler reported that his saddle shifted during the event which placed him at a severe disadvantage. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
GOLD REVOLUTION – Jumped inwards at the start. Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 6: PARADISE LAGOONS 2024 THE FITZROY OPEN – 1300M
 
ISIS CARMELLA – Overraced in the early stages.
 
HONKYTONK DIVA – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
SAVOURY (NZ) – Bounded on jumping.
 
SUCH A WHIT – Slow to begin.
 
FINE SHOT – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
BOLD HUNTER – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow into stride. Overraced in the early stages and passing the 900m had to be steadied from the heels of SIR WARWICK.
 
Race 7: BENTLEYS 2024 THE ARCHER - 1300M
 
MASTER JAMIE – Rider L Tilley stated that his mount was weakening over the concluding stages and as a result he didn’t place MASTER JAMIE under any further pressure.
 
MISHANI SNIPER – Held up for clear running passing the 400m and was obliged to shift in an attempt to improve. Approaching the winning post had to alter course off the heels of NAMAZU to improve into clear running.
 
NAMAZU – Jockey A Butler was fined $500 under AR131(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.
 
LAVISH EMPIRE – Obliged to shifted wider approaching the 300m to improve into clear running.
 
PRINCESS TENKO – When questioned regarding the performance jockey J Stanley stated that his mount travelled well in the early stages of the event, however upon straightening PRINCESS TENKO felt awkward in its action and as a result, elected not to place his mount under any further pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near fore. Trainer C Taylor was advised that PRINCESS TENKO would be required to obtain a veterinary certificate prior to its next start. Trainer C Taylor stated that PRINCESS TENKO would now be retired.
 
HARD REYVA – Jockey T Berry stated that in his opinion his mount may not have handled the step up in class. A post-race veterinary examination revealed mild coughing. Trainer S Kendrick was advised that HARD REYVA would be required to obtain a veterinary certificate with the results of an endoscopic examination with that report.
 
Race 8: FRASERS LIVESTOCK TRANSPORT BM58 HCP - 1300M
 
DESERT MOON – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
SPRING VALLEY – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
TOUCH OF GRACIE – Momentarily held up for clear running when entering the home straight.
 
ALL THE SHOPS – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
THE LAST SAGA – As no other senior rider was available for the ride, stewards permitted (a) T Fenlon to replace J Murphy as the rider.
 
THE HAIRDRESSER – Jockey J Stanley reported on scale that initially his mount travelled well in the early stages but commenced to hang out rounding the home turn and was reluctant to stride out in the home straight, and as a result, was not placed under any further pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer C Taylor was advised that THE HAIRDRESSER would be officially required to barrier trial prior to its next start.
 
SHEEZALITTLETORQUE – Trainer S Kendrick was advised that SHEEZALITTLETORQUE would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to its next start after being fractious in the barriers and rearing on a number of occasions.
