GENERAL
As jockey M. Rodd and apprentice O. Kendal were not riding due to injury, replacements were made as per the Raceday Summary.
 
Race 1: YOUNG VETERANS SUNSHINE COAST CLASS 3 HANDICAP    1800 Metres
 
TAVISTORM (NZ) – Checked from heels of MARTEDI near the 1400m.
 
MARTEDI – Near the 1400m, shifted in across heels despite the efforts of its rider and clipped the heel of HARD OFFER which also shifted out slightly, and as a result lost ground causing TAVISTORM to be checked.
 
IOANE (NZ) – Over raced during the early stages.
 
HARD OFFER – Shifted out slightly near the 1400m.
 
WILLNOTQUIT (NZ) – Raced wide during the early stages.
 
SING A RAINBOW – Slow to begin, then ridden forward when racing wide to obtain a position outside the lead passing the 1200m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
 
Race 2: ANZAC DAY MAIDEN HANDICAP    1200 Metres
 
BIT OF GRUNT – When the pace of the race slackened near the 800m improved onto heels and had to be checked. Improved onto heels leaving the 200m and had to be steadied.
 
MISS MOOV – Raced wide throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be making an abnormal respiratory noise and signs of heat stress. Trainer D. Vandyke was advised that MISS MOOV will require a veterinary clearance including the results of an endoscopic examination and will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
FOSSIL FUEL – Jockey M. Harley reported that his mount laid out from the 800m.
 
PRETTY LITTLE LIAR – As jockey R. Maloney was overweight, he was replaced by D. Thornton. Jockey Maloney was fined $500 (also for race 4) pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Trainer J. Bruce advised of a change of tactics – to be ridden with cover if circumstances permit. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight placing its rider at a disadvantage.   
 
SHE'S REALISTIC – Began awkwardly.
 
ANTILLES – Slow to begin. Raced wide during the early stages.
 
BRAMBLE BAY – Began awkwardly.
 
ROTHESAY'S LAD – Slow to begin. Jockey M. Hellyer reported that his mount raced greenly throughout.
 
ARTZ ON FIRE – Declared a late scratching at 1.40pm due to no suitable rider being available.
 
PEACEFUL PRINCE – Began to over race when the pace of the race slackened near the 800m.
 
 
Race 3: LEST WE FORGET BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP         1200 Metres
 
RENOUF – Passing 1100m, obliged to race in restricted room and had to be steadied when racing to the inside of SERGEANT HULKA.
 
BOOM BOOM BASIL – Raced wide throughout.
 
READY FOR ANYTHING – Raced wide throughout. Lost the near fore plate in running.
 
CRANKY HARRY – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Held up for clear running passing the 300m and continued to be held up until the 200m when obliged to steady from the heels of SELOUS which shifted in. Continued to then have difficulty securing clear running until the final 100m.
 
ISLAND MAGIC – Raced wide throughout.
 
SERGEANT HULKA – Reared as the start was effected.
 
SELOUS – Slow to begin. Over raced for a short distance approaching the 900m.  Disappointed for a run near the 250m and obliged to shift back to the inside to secure clear running and continued to have difficulty securing clear running until approaching the 150m.
 
ANEMACORE (NZ) – Near the 1000m, obliged to race in restricted room to the inside of SERGEANT HULKA for a short distance and had to be steadied. Following this incident, over raced until leaving the 800m.  Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SEBRING GIRL – Raced wide throughout.
 
WONDERFUL RAYRAY – Apprentice E. Lang advised that the gelding had not raced for over a month and peaked on its run over the concluding stages.
 
SCRIPT WRITER – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 4: CALOUNDRA RSL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP         1000 Metres
 
MR BROSE – Raced wide throughout.
 
CICCONE – Began awkwardly.
 
EVERLASTING STARS – Bumped on jumping and lost ground. Held up for clear running approaching the home turn.
 
RUSSIAN PINS – Shifted in and bumped EVERLASTING STARS.  
 
GRANDEUR ROSE – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 5: MARTIN COLLINS AUSTRALIA QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP       1000 Metres
 
EAGLE'S FIRE – Trainer S. Batten was reprimanded pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider. Began awkwardly. Improved onto heels and had to be steadied approaching the 600m.
 
AQUAHOLIC – Hung out from the 600m until entering the home straight.
 
MISHANI SUSPECT – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 6: HIGGINS COATINGS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP        1400 Metres
 
The start of this race was delayed due to the ambulance officials having to attend an oncourse patron.
 
BOOMING LAD – Approaching the 200m, bumped and became awkward when ESKIMO shifted out under pressure.
 
RED VICAR – Slow to begin. Lost the near hind plate in running.
 
STORM FORCE TEN – Raced wide throughout.
 
ESKIMO – Approaching the 200m, shifted out under pressure and bumped BOOMING LAD.
 
GREY ICE (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground.  
 
FARWEST – Slow to begin.

 
 
Race 7: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP       1400 Metres
 
The start of this race was delayed when VEANDECHANCE became cast in the barriers. VEANDECHANCE was declared a late scratching at 5.01pm on veterinary advice. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all bets placed on VEANDECHANCE be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st – COLLEAGUES 17c win, 9c place
2nd – DEAL AN ACE 17c place
3rd – ECHO HUNTER 20c place
 
A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bruising and abrasions and was treated by the oncourse veterinarian. Trainer M. Dunn was advised that VEANDECHANCE must provide a veterinary clearance and also barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
CRACK OF DOOM – Raced wide throughout.
 
ECHO HUNTER – Began awkwardly.
 
DEAL AN ACE – Steadied from heels near the 1000m when REDENTE CHOICE shifted in.
 
 
Race 8: TAB CLASS 1 HANDICAP       1400 Metres
 
DARK TANGENT – Slow to begin. Improved onto heels near the 500m and had to be steadied, and was then held up until approaching the 300m.
 
SILVER GODDESS – Over raced at heels passing the 900m and shifted wider as a result.
 
FINAL SELECTION – Significantly slow to begin.  
 
LI'L WONDER – Leaving the 400m, became awkward at the heels of SIGNITA which was weakening.
 
SIGNITA (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
ASTERN VILLA – Held up from the 500m, checked from heels near the 300m and continued to be held up until the 150m.
