SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

ROCKHAMPTON 28/4/24 – QTIS 3YO HCP – SUNNYCOAST

Trainer J McConachy reported that the gelding had pulled up well following the run however he would now be getting blood tests conducted to determine if they would show anything which could explain the performance and would report any findings to stewards. He further added that SUNNYCOAST would now be sent for a spell.

GENERAL

Following a track inspection stewards upgraded the track to a firm two (2) at 11:05am.

Trainer J. Kuhn was reprimanded under LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider on DIVIDER.

Stewards permitted Jockey J. Stanley to be replaced by jockey B. Newport in race 8 on JUNGLE BEAT due to changes in transport arrangements.

Trainer L. Clem advised stewards that his float had broken down enroute to the race meeting and would not arrive in time for race one with his runner LITTLE MISS BELLE and was making alternative arrangements for his other runner to be transported to the track for race eight. LITTLE MISS BELLE was subsequently declared a late scratching at 10:28am

CHILLI PALMER and MOHANA were both pre-race examined by the veterinarian after competing at Mackay on Friday 26/4/24 and were cleared to start in their respective events.

Race 1: ADORNATO LAW QTIS MDN PLT - 1200M

The start was delayed when MONT ROYAL underwent a veterinary examination after rearing in the barriers and was subsequently cleared to take its place in the event.

FLAWLESS AMBITION – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

MONT ROYAL – Fractious in the barriers

RAPID INSTINCT – Made the home turn extremely awkwardly.

DESERT GRIT – Jockey L Tilley stated that his mount was in the barriers for a prolonged period of time due to the pre-race examination of another runner and as a result, DESERT GRIT stood flatfooted as the start was effected. Raced keenly in the early stages.

YONAKA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

DIVIDER – Jumped out abruptly at the start and was slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

LITTLE MISS BELLE – Declared a late scratching at 10:28am due to transport difficulties.

SUNSHINE RUBY – Slow into stride.

Race 2: CALLIDE VALLEY TYRES QTIS MDN PLT - 1200M

AMBITIOUS FELLA – Began awkwardly and raced wide throughout. Near the 650m hung out onto the heels of KALPOWAR KING and had to be steadied.

INREADYNESS – Raced wide throughout.

OUR DRUMMER – Bumped on jumping with THE UNDERGROUND.

KALPOWAR KING – Raced wide throughout. Jockey A Spinks reported that upon entering the home straight his mount commenced to hang out, proving difficult to ride.

DAUNTING LADY – Hung out near the 700m and commenced to over race for some distance thereafter. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, trainer L Wanless stated that in his opinion DAUNTING LADY was competing in a more suitable maiden today than it has previously been contesting. He added that the slight drop back in distance and the engagement of an apprentice was beneficial in the chances of his mount.

DIVINE KAMEHALANI – Raced keenly in the early stages. Shifted wider near the 400m in an attempt to improve into the event.

THE UNDERGROUND – Jumped in at the start bumping OUR DRUMMER bumping Jockey L Tilley reported that his mount failed to handle the firm track conditions and may have jarred up during the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 3: FLEXIHIRE BM55 HCP - 1400M

The start of this race was delayed when APPLECROSS was presented into the mounting yard with the incorrect saddlecloth. At a subsequent inquiry T Thomas plead guilty to a charge under AR106(1) and was fined $100. Apprentice J McMurray, the rider of APPLECROSS also pleaded guilty to a charge under AR227(a) in that his negligence by handing trainer Thomas the incorrect saddlecloth number led to a breach of the rules and was subsequently fined $100.

MURRAJONG ROAD (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages and had to be restrained from the heels of EL OF A SENORITA on a number of occasions. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.

CHEVY NOVA – Commenced to over race from the 1300m and had to be restrained from the heels of MURRAJONG ROAD near the 1100m when BRAND NEW (NZ) laid in. Raced wide in the middle stages.

PAULI – Tightened on jumping between APPLECROSS and CHEVY NOVA. Raced keenly in the early stages. Apprentice S. Willis reported that her saddle slipped during the event placing her at a disadvantage.

BRAND NEW (NZ) – Laid in near the 1100m. Raced wide in the early and middle stages and laid in under pressure in the home straight.

AWESOME SPIRIT – Raced wide throughout.

COCO CUBER – Slow to begin. Over raced onto the heels of MURRAJONG ROAD near the 100m.

Race 4: KERRY LYNCH CONCRETE BM60 HCP - 1600M

MOTAMAYIZ (GB) – Racing keenly in the early and middle stages and raced wide throughout. Apprentice N Olzard was reprimanded under AR135(c) for using her whip when out of contention.

RUBY'S LAD – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

MOHAHNA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from one nostril. Trainer T Simmons stated to stewards that MOHANA would now be retired. Trainer T Simmons was nonetheless still advised of the provisions of AR79(8) and must gallop or trial in the presence of a stewards.

LANOVA – Stood flatfooted and missed the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off fore. Trainer D. Rideout was advised that LANOVA would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.

DOUBLE BARRELL – Slow into stride. Jockey B Newport was reprimanded under AR135(c) for using his whip when out of contention.

Race 5: GROW FINANCIAL BM45 HCP - 1200M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards viewed the replays to ascertain whether CRAIGLEA ETNA was afforded a fair start. After viewing the films, stewards noted that whilst the gate did open noticeably slower to the remainder of the field and did not afford CRAIGLEA ETNA a fair start, they were unable to declare CRAIGLEA ETNA a non-starter under the provisions of AR201(1) due to the mare placing third (3rd) in the event. As a result, correct weight was given on the judges numbers.

Multiple tests were then conducted on the barriers by the starter to ensure no further issues with the gate would ensue for the remainder of the meeting.

FROSTWOOD – Slow into stride and raced keenly in the early stages. laid out rounding the first turn. Raced wide throughout.

THE STONE MASON – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

OBLIQUITY – Raced wide throughout.

CRAIGLEA ETNA – Raced wide early and middle stages. When questioned into the tactics adopted apprentice N. Olzard stated that after the gates had been slow to open, she urged her mount forward in an attempt to not be in a rearward position in the field, however the mount responded much better to the urges than anticipated and as a result found herself in a much further forward position than she anticipated.

TOM ROCKS – Raced wide throughout.

MISS DAURIAN – Stewards intend to speak to trainer D. Johnston in relation to the poor performance in today’s event.

QUEENSLANDER – Raced keenly in the early stages.

CANTOR – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin.

MISS RINEHART – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.


Race 6: MILNE BROS TRUCKS & TRACTORS BM45 HCP - 1200M

The start of the race was delayed LORD VADER underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers at the request of its rider. The examination subsequently displayed no abnormalities and LORD VADER was cleared to start.

FULMEN (IRE) – When questioned regarding the performance, jockey J Stanley stated he wasn’t overly disappointed with the performance of FULMAN (IRE) as he was of the opinion that the pace of the race and the heavy weight that the gelding had to carry was detrimental to its chances.

LORD VADER – When questioned, jockey A Butler stated that his mount never travelled in the event and didn’t feel entirely comfortable in its action in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-fore fetlock. Stable representative G Wehlow was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to its next start.

RICHUNCLEMONEYBAGS – At a point near the 700m commenced to severely over race and had to be checked from the heels of LORD VADER for a considerable distance thereafter.

CRAIGLEA THERA – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

IMAGINE THAT – Bumped on jumping by CHILLI PALMER.

MEDIA HYPE – Raced wide throughout.

CHILLI PALMER – Jumped in at the start bumping IMAGINE THAT. Raced wide throughout.

DESIGNING ARROW – Near the 100m was carried wider by CRAIGLEA THERA.


Race 7: BILOELA PLUMBING WORKS C3 PLT - 1200M

RAPIDS – Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormalities.

FASTLING – Jumped away awkwardly. Near the 300m lost considerable ground and had to be checked when CINDERELLA MAN shifted in when insufficiently clear. At a subsequent inquiry, apprentice B Moffat pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(a) and his license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 days to commence on midnight 4th May 2024 and to expire on midnight 10th May 2024. In assessing penalty stewards were mindful of the degree of carelessness being determined to be in the low range, apprentice Moffat’s guilty plea, mitigating circumstances, apprentice Moffat’s status as an apprentice and his exemplary record with no prior suspensions under this rule.

KING SAMUEL – Jumped away awkwardly.

BLONDE'S DAY OUT – Slow to begin and muster speed.

THE BLONDE GODDESS – Raced keenly in the early stages.

GALEKA – Contacted the running rail heavily for a number of strides near the 700m. Nearing the 300m bumped with FASTLING when attempting a narrow run between KIRELLA SHORES and CINDERELLA MAN.

CINDERELLA MAN – Raced wide in the early stages.

Race 8: ST JOSEPH'S RACEDAY 20 JULY BM55 HCP - 800M

The start of the event was delayed when STILL FEELING IT reared behind the gates and dislodged apprentice M. Apel and then proved difficult to load. Trainer G Bell was advised that STILL FEELING IT would be required to officially barrier trial and obtain a veterinary certificate prior to its next start.

EXTREMAARTY – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the improved performance, Trainer P Pengelly stated after the gelding last start was first up after a two-year spell it had derived significant benefit from that run and was expecting an improved showing in today’s event.

STILL FEELING IT – Shifted out on jumping and bumped with SEQUACIOUS which in turn was carried out, bumping BORNESS LAD who placed JUNGLE BEAT in restricted room. Trainer G Bell stated that STILL FEELING IT would now be retired.

INATICK – Jockey L Tilley stated that in his opinion the gelding would be better suited to races over a further distance and was not overly disappointed with the performance.

AWESOME MISS – Jumped away awkwardly.

JELLISHOT – Bumped shortly after jumping and laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.

JUNGLE BEAT – Raced wide throughout.

BET LUCY – Raced wide throughout. Upon returning to scale, Apprentice Willis advised that shortly after jumping her saddle had shifted placing her at a disadvantage riding her mount during the event.

BORNEES LAD – Bumped on jumping by SEQUACIOUS which was carried out. Bumped by SEQUACIOUS near the 650m and commenced to over race for some distance afterwards. Raced wide throughout.

SEQUACIOUS – Bumped on jumping by STILL FEELING IT which shifted out. Raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 650m, shifted out and bumped BORNESS LAD. Raced wide throughout.

CRAIGLEA LAKI – Raced wide throughout.

Following the running of the race Apprentice M. Apel was assessed by QAS staff after reporting to stewards she had some pain in her right ankle. She was advised that she would be required to provide a medical certificate prior to returning to riding.
