Crack Rockhampton filly Chinny Boom can prove she’s the real deal by ticking off an “unknown” in her Brisbane debut a Doomben on Saturday.

Chinny Boom will put her unbeaten record to the test when she lines up in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Fillies Handicap over 1200 metres.

The daughter of Spirit Of Boom has won all four starts on Queensland’s northern provincial circuit at Rockhampton, Townsville and Mackay but has never raced beyond 1100 metres.

Trainer Clinton Taylor is mindful Chinny Boom has not been tested over 1200 metres but sees no reason why she won’t run the journey.

“There is a question mark over whether she’ll run 1200 metres but I can’t see why she won’t,” Taylor said.

“Her pedigree suggests she won’t get the trip but we’ve laid the foundations for her to run it out.”

Taylor is keeping a close watch on the Brisbane weather and won’t hesitate to scratch her and wait a week for the following Eagle Farm meeting if rain threatens her prospects.

“Her Grand Final is the Listed Mode Stakes in December and if she can win over 1200 metres it opens a lot of doors for her,” he said.

“A few decisions with the weather have to be made yet to see if she starts Saturday and if she doesn’t she’ll run at Eagle Farm on Saturday week.

“Anything is possible with her, including going further south, if she can prove herself over 1200 metres but I think a lot of the hype with her is unnecessary.

“She’s only been winning in the north and Brisbane is a lot harder.”

Chinny Boom has won all her four starts by leading but Taylor has warned she can take a sit.

“Jockey Justin Stanley and I have been doing a lot of work teaching her to settle but she’s never had the opportunity yet to take a sit,” he said.

“She doesn’t have to lead and if it’s a high pressure race I think she’ll be better off ridden behind.”

Jockey Ben Thompson will have his first ride on Chinny Boom, who was ridden by Stanley and Ashley Butler in her four wins so far.

“Ben rang me personally for the ride and has committed to riding her throughout her campaign,” he said.

Taylor has confirmed Chinny Boom will be staying in his stable after owner Mark Pascoe put up the “not for sale” sign following her latest victory at Rockhampton on October 4.

Chinny Boom strolled home by more than eight lengths against her own age over 1050 metres that day, smashing the long-standing track record of 59.27 seconds by 0.68 seconds on a rain affected track.

Her time for the final 600 metres was a sizzling 32.24 seconds while her combined winning margins in her four victories has been just short of 20 lengths.
