Jockey Jasmine Cornish got into the pink spirit on the Gold Coast.

The Gold Coast Turf Club’s hugely successful Pink Ribbon Cup continues to grow in stature, with fund-raising efforts for the National Breast Cancer Foundation eclipsing the $1 million mark this year.

The annual race day, which was first held at the track in 2007, was this year expanded to a tri-code week of celebrations encompassing thoroughbred, greyhound and harness racing through the support of Racing Queensland and Sky Racing.

The event once again proved a smash hit with a year-on-year record of over $250,000 raised for the National Breast Cancer Foundation to push the overall fund-raising total well over the $1.1 million mark.

Gold Coast Turf Club CEO Steve Lines said the club was extremely proud of the event’s growth in recent years and thankful for the support from the community and marquee sponsors Sky Racing, Racing Queensland and Coastal Demolitions and Asbestos Removals.

“This year marked our 15th Pink Ribbon Cup and we’re really delighted with what Robyn Cameron and the club has been able to achieve in that time,” Lines said.

“The race day itself has grown in stature and off the track, the community has really got behind the event, highlighted by the fact the Pink Ribbon Cup race day alone raised a record of $216,000 this year.

“That combined with the funds raised from the tri-code expansion have further added to the success of what is now one of the biggest events on our annual calendar.”

Fundraising event organiser and twice survivor of breast cancer Robyn Cameron said the funds would contribute towards vital research.

“Breast cancer is a disease that affects so many people, it has no boundaries. Research is the key to unlocking life saving treatments, but research requires a lot of money,” Cameron said.

“So, it’s absolutely fantastic that the funds raised will go towards saving the lives of not only women but men too who also suffer from breast cancer.”
