Queensland is poised to be represented in the inaugural running of The TAB Eureka.

Earlier this week, Racing Queensland was announced as one of 10 inaugural slot holders in the world’s richest harness race, ensuring a Sunshine State star will represent Queensland in the new $2.1 million feature for the next three years.

The 2300-metre race, set to be run for the first time at Club Menangle on September 2, 2023, is restricted to Australian-born three and four-year-old pacers.

RQ EGM Operations Adam Wallish said that he is excited to see Queensland represented on the national stage.

“Queensland has a long and storied history in the sport, and we are excited to be a part of The TAB Eureka from its inception,” Mr Wallish said.

"The TAB Eureka is a brilliant concept for the harness racing code, and we applaud Harness Racing Australia for its innovation in bringing this concept to life.

“We have seen both thoroughbred and greyhound codes utilise this concept to great success, and are proud to be involved in yet another fantastic initiative for the industry.”

More details regarding RQ’s involvement will be released over the coming weeks with key focuses of adding a Queensland flavour to the event, innovation, and attracting interest and engagement outside of the traditional harness racing sphere.

“RQ’s approach caught the attention of the selection panel, and was lauded for its innovation and ambition,” Harness Racing Australia CEO Andrew Kelly said.

“There has already been significant national interest in The Eureka, and we look forward to RQ playing a crucial role in its promotion over the coming months as we build towards the inaugural running next September.”
