The 2022/23 Golden Greys Summer Racing Carnival is set to celebrate Queensland-bred greyhounds with a new feature night, exclusive to local chasers.

QGOLD Night, to be staged at the Brisbane Greyhound Racing Club on December 8, will be restricted to greyhounds born and bred in the Sunshine State, with almost $250,000 in prize money on offer.

The program will feature two $40,200 Open races over the sprint (520m) and middle-distance (600m) course, as well as two Open features over the two short course distances (395m and 331m) both worth $20,100.

The evening will also feature a further five races restricted by class or age, all worth $25,000.

Further, Queensland-bred greyhounds that contest the Queensland Flame Final the week prior will be offered automatic entry into 520-metre QGOLD Summer Sprint, if nominated.

RQ EGM Operations Adam Wallish said the QGOLD feature meeting would provide Queensland’s stars the perfect platform to showcase their talents.

“The greyhound industry remains the fastest growing code of racing in Queensland,” Mr Wallish said.

“We are excited to introduce the QGOLD feature evening as a part of another exciting Golden Greys Summer Racing Carnival, celebrating the best of our local stars on the big stage.

“As a part of RQ’s recent Investment Growth Plan, we have delivered more than $4 million in increased prize money to the code, and it is vitally important that investment can support the sustainability of our breeding industry.”

Additionally, all sustainability payments, designed to buy, breed and back the Queensland greyhound racing industry, will now sit under the QGOLD brand. They are:

  • $1,000 payment for a QGOLD-eligible greyhound if its first start is in Queensland;
  • $1,000 payment for a QGOLD-eligible greyhound if its first win is in Queensland;
  • $1,000 payment for a QGOLD-eligible greyhound if its second win is in Queensland; and
  • $1,000 payment for a QGOLD-eligible greyhound when it wins its first Masters race in Queensland.

All payments are split 40/40/20 between owner, breeder, and trainer.
