Trainer Graeme Green has a brand new caravan parked in his front yard but is not yet ready for a curtain call on his training career.

Green once had plans to travel around Australia as a grey nomad but retirement has again been put on the back burner well past his attempt at back-to-back wins with Master Jamie in the Rockhampton Cup on Saturday.

Master Jamie defied his critics to win last year’s Rockhampton Cup over 1600 metres when many rated him a distance doubt.

Green is again tempting further criticism as he contemplates stepping up Master Jamie in distance to 2000 metres in the Mackay Cup on July 22.

Master Jamie is a two time winner of 1600 metres and is coming off a last start second to the Toby and Trent Edmonds-trained Indian Dreamer in the 1600 metre Tattersalls Gold Cup at Callaghan Park last month.

“It took a track record to beat him last start and we had to give the winner 9.5kgs,” Green said.

“I think Indian Dreamer is probably the one to beat again but we meet him better at the weights this time and I couldn’t be happier with Master Jamie.

“So long as he’s sound and healthy he’ll press on to the 2023 Northern Winter Carnival and I’d like to try him over 2000 metres in the Mackay Cup.

“If he doesn’t go to Mackay I might freshen him up  and look at winning the Cleveland Bay Handicap again with him.”

Master Jamie won the Cleveland Bay Handicap, which is regarded as the Stradbroke of the north, two years ago at Townsville.

Green said Master Jamie is showing no signs of wear and tear after 53 starts.

“The way he came off the water walker this week you’d think he was a two-year-old,” the veteran trainer said.

”He’s been around a long time but he’s only six and is racing as good as ever and his last two runs have proven that.”

Green said while he’d like to join the grey nomad scene in his new caravan, any thoughts of retiring have been put on hold until his wife Julie retires in a couple of years.

“I’ve got a brand new caravan parked in the front yard but we’ve bought a couple of close relatives to Master Jamie at the Magic Millions sales in March,” he said.

“I also bought a yearling at the Magic Millions January sales and all are showing a lot of promise so retiring will have to wait a couple more years.”
