Trainer Clinton Taylor is counting down the days to when his star mare Chinny Boom makes her race track return but for the time being is hoping to continue training winners.

Taylor will saddle up a big team of starters on his home track at Rockhampton on Friday including stable newcomer Janean.

Janean was a dual-acceptor but Taylor has decided to contest the Class 3 Handicap over 1050 metres with the former Toowoomba mare.

Janean is unbeaten in two starts for Taylor since she was moved on from Toowoomba.

“Two of her owners, Laird and Spencer Morgan, are long time clients of mine and they had her before they sent her to me,” Taylor said.

The daughter of Spill The Beans has only started four times and broke through for her maiden success with an all-the-way victory over 1100 metres at Emerald on October 3.

She then came from behind to score a dominant win when back in trip to 1050 metres at Mackay on October 19.

“She just fell in the day she won her maiden at Emerald but she improved out of sight for her next start when she won at Mackay,” Taylor said.

Taylor, who has a long-term desire to train in Brisbane, has a stable of 30 horses in work including several babies and is excited about the two-year-old season.

“The stable is going well and we’ve got quite a few promising two-year-olds in work,” Taylor said.

Taylor currently has a 25 per cent winning strike rate this season with 11 wins from 44 starters.

“We haven’t had a heap of runners this season but we’re chipping away slowly and we had 12 trial on Monday,” he said.

“Chinny Boom is back in work and has had a jump out and she’ll trial in about three weeks.”

Chinny Boom has won six of her nine starts and proved she was up to metropolitan class winning at Doomben in April.

However, she failed in the Listed Mick Dittman Plate at Doomben two weeks later before her last winter appearance when she finished fifth to the Robert Heathcote-trained Ekaterina at Eagle Farm in late June.

Taylor is yet to pencil in a summer program for Chinny Boom.

“She’s eligible for the Magic Millions so we could find a race for her that day,” Taylor said.

“We couldn’t put a finger on what happened in Brisbane but she wasn’t herself and raced below par.

“It was unlike her so we gave her a big break and she’s come back bigger and stronger.”
