Maid To Fit launches Magic Millions bid

Giant mare Maid To Fit will begin her campaign towards the Magic Millions carnival in January when she resumes at Doomben on Wednesday.

Maid To Fit, a $725,000 buy at the Magic Millions yearling sales in 2021, will be striving to extend her winning sequence to four in the Benchmark 68 Handicap over 1110 metres.

The four-year-old daughter of Snitzel has started only eight times for three wins and two placings but is a long way from recouping her purchase price for her owners. 

The galloper's senior owner Darren Wilson has raced many horses with Maid To Fit’s trainer Kelly Schweida including Oink, Cellargirl and Cellarmaid.

Cellargirl was the best of the trio winning three times and was placed in the Group 1 Flight Stakes behind the James Cummings-trained Alizee at Randwick in 2017.

Maid To Fit - a James Orman mount – won twice at Doomben before a dominant win over 1350 metres at her first Ipswich start on September 27.

“Her win at Ipswich was very good and she got around the track well which was my main worry that day,” Schweida said.

“She races well and never wins by far but always seems to do enough.

“It’ll probably be a wet track with this rain around but I don’t think that’ll worry her.

“Plan A is to get her to the Magic Millions but that’s a long way off yet as she hasn’t got much prize money.”

Maid To Fit had three weeks in the paddock following her Ipswich victory.

“I sent her to the paddock for three weeks after her Ipswich win and she’s had a soft trial at the Sunshine Coast,” Schweida said.

The Eagle Farm trainer was disappointed with Maid To Fit’s barrier 14 but she comes in four places without the emergencies.

Schweida describes Maid To Fit as a “monster mare” as she stands 16.2 hands.

Maid To Fit is bred in the purple as her mother Perfect Fit won six times from 1000 metres to 1600 metres including her biggest win in the Group 1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes at Te Aroha in 2016.

She also won at Group 2 level and was placed in the Group 1 Railway Stakes at Ellerslie and Group 1 Telegraph at Trentham in 2017.
