Trainer Paula Barron is hopeful Speed Map can continue her successful association with Victorian broodmare stud, A List Stud, when the five-year-old starts at Eagle Farm on Friday.

A Group 1-winning trainer, Barron has 38 horses on her books at the Gold Coast and will be looking for her third city winner for A List Stud when Speed Map tackles the Class 4 Handicap over 1600 metres.

Speed Map is also entered for the Sunshine Coast on Saturday but Barron is leaning towards running at Eagle Farm.

“It all depends on the barriers where he starts but I probably favour going to Eagle Farm on Friday,” Barron said.

“He’s been getting some bad barriers recently but he drew well when he won at the Sunshine Coast last month and last start when he finished second.”

Russian Warrior gave Barron her first city winner for A List Stud at Doomben in September last year before Sir Lord was also successful at Doomben last month.

“I’ve been training since I was 18 and I only gave it away for a while when I had two daughters,” Barron said.

“I came back in 2012 to train and I worked part-time while training a few horses for myself.

“I was working for Allan Chau, who trained for A List last year, before he went out on his own and I was given the job to take over from him.

“Since I’ve been training for A List I’ve had about 21 winners for them.”

Speed Map is coming off a last start second to Deep Tempest in a 1600 metre Class Three Handicap at the Sunshine Coast on January 7.

“He’s been racing well and should be competitive again wherever he runs,” Barron said.

“He races best when he’s allowed to settle back in the field and run home. He’s knocking at the door for another win.”

Barron has trained in every state of Australia with the exception of NSW and Tasmania.

Her biggest win was with Crush in the Group 1 Goodwood Handicap at Morphettville in 1991.

“I’m originally from Darwin and I’ve trained in every state bar NSW and Tasmania,” Barron said.

“Crush was my biggest win when he won the Goodwood Handicap. He was a great horse.”
