READY ABOVE – Approaching the 500m broke down suffering a catastrophic fracture to the off fore sesamoid and was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds. Jockey R. Fradd was examined by the Club’s Doctor and stood down for the remainder of the day.   Urine and blood samples were also taken from the gelding subsequent to the event.  Jockey Fradd was replaced as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

HEAT SHIELD – Severely checked approaching the 500m to avoid a fallen rider and took no further competitive part in the event.

OLYMPIC PRINCE – Raced wide without cover throughout.

RACE 2: Superhero Saturday Fillies & Mares Class 2 H’Cap – 1110m

ALKIPPE was declared a late scratching at 12.16 p.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice.  Trainer T. Cotsiopoulos was advised that the mare will require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to racing again.
FORBIDDEN KISSES – Slow to begin.

RACE 3: BRC.COM.AU QTIS 3YO Colts Geldings Maiden Plate – 1350m

PEXBURY AVENUE – Slow to begin.

OUR RED JET – Raced greenly when attempting to secure clear running in the early stages of the home straight.  When asked to comment regarding his horse’s performance jockey J. Lloyd indicated that the horse would appreciate a step up in distance as in today’s event the horse showed gait speed and he would have been able to hold and secure a forward position however, due to the wide barrier he was obliged to steady to obtain cover at the rear of the field and was doing its best work over the concluding stages.

GREENBANK ROAD – Stewards questioned jockey L. Dittman regarding the tactics adopted which resulted in his mount settling 3 wide outside the lead with no cover in only a moderately run first 800m.  Jockey Dittman indicated that he had been instructed to attempt to secure a position in the forward half of the field and initially believed he may have been able to settle behind THE PONSTER.  However, after passing the 1200m he did not believe that he would be able to steady and obtain this position and therefore allowed the horse to stride forward in an attempt to cross that runner.  A short distance later THE PONSTER commenced to overrace and this resulted in his mount being unable to muster sufficient speed to cross that horse and he was obliged to remain in a 3 wide position.  Stewards noted the explanation.

RACE 4: Mount Franklin Fillies & Mares Maiden H’Cap – 1200m

Trainer B. Lockwood was fined $100.00 for failing to produce the document of description for ANTIGONE.

BONSHO – Reared as the start was effected and lost significant ground.  Overraced from the 1000m and was placed in restricted room to the inside of COSMOS SEVEN near the 900m.  Then continued to overrace and had to be checked from the heels of COSMOS SEVEN near the 800m.

SHERRIN THE OVE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

HEART OF A REBEL – Slow to begin.

ANTIGONE – Began awkwardly.  Near the 900m had to be restrained when placed in restricted room to the inside of BONSHO.  When inclined to lay in in the early stages of the home straight had some difficulty obtaining clear running.

MIAZUMI – Inclined to lay in rounding the home turn and in the home straight and was reported by its rider that it was awkward in its action on return to scale. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RANDOM WAY – Hung out badly throughout the event and took no competitive part from the 500m.  A post race veterinary examination of the mare revealed lacerations to both sides of its mouth.  Trainer T. Haydon was advised that the mare must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.
RACE 5: Chairmans Club Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 2 H’Cap – 1110m

GOOD TO BE GREAT – Slow to begin.

DIVINE DICE – Hung out for a short distance passing the 800m.

RACE 6: Suez Class 3 Plate – 2020m

HI AFRICAINE – When the pace steadied passing the 1350m shifted 3 wide to improve and settled in a position outside the lead passing the 1100m.

PIPPOS – Raced wide from the 1000m until the 600m.

KARAKABEEL – Laid in under pressure near the 300m causing its rider to stop riding and straighten. Tightened for room, checked, clipped heels and blundered over the concluding stages.

Jockey L. Dittman the rider of LIGHTNING BELL pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that he failed to stop riding and straighten when his mount shifted out under heavy riding over the concluding stages resulting in KARAKABEEL being tightened and having to be checked, clip heels and blunder. Jockey Dittman’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of eleven (11) days to commence midnight 8 March 2017 and expire midnight 19 March 2017.

RACE 7: Sky Racing Class 1 H’Cap – 1615m
