GENERAL
 
As jockey J. Taylor and jockey C. Eaton were indisposed and not riding at todays meeting, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards summary. Both jockeys were advised that they would require a medical clearance prior to next riding.

Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting:
 
Race 4 – ZOUY’S COMET – S. Cormack +1kg (55kg)
Race 7 – HODGSON – M. Cahill +1kg (55kg)
Race 8 – LYNDALL – S. Cormack +1kg (55kg)
 
Race 1: SILKS UNDER THE STARS MAY 24 MAIDEN PLATE      1900M
 
WHYTEEPEE – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
CASSIE'S GIRL – Stood flat footed at the start and lost ground. Trainer D. Groves was advised a warning would be recorded against the mare. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
HIGH CURRENCY (NZ) – Change of tactics, to be ridden further forward. Settled behind the leader.
 
SISTINE CHAPEL – Jockey M. Wishart reported, in the smaller field she was asked to ensure the mare began well to obtain a more forward position that previous starts. She added after beginning well, SISTINE CHAPEL settled in the lead.
 
Race 2: HOLLINDALE MAY 11 ON SALE MAIDEN PLATE 1540M
 
BETTER THAN LOVE – Reared, became cast in the barriers, was removed, underwent a veterinary examination and was a late withdrawal at 12:31pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on BETTER THAN LOVE be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply –  
 
1st place – 3c the win, 5c the place
2nd place – 3c the place
3rd place – 3c the place
 
Trainer S. Morrisey was advised a warning would be recorded against the gelding.
 
PANTHER POWER – Began awkwardly.
 
READY ENABLE – Began awkwardly.
 
DELIBES – Began awkwardly and was then bumped shortly after resulting in apprentice J. Williams momentarily losing the use of his near-side iron.
 
PARCHEMIN – Rounding the home turn and in the home straight laid in.
 
SNAG DA BEANS – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
IRENE'S BEST – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
STILETTOS – Change of tactics, to be ridden further forward. Settled just off the leader.
 
Race 3: WE RIDE AT NIGHT MAY 24 MAIDEN PLATE 1150M
 
GINGERBREAD BOY – Dislodged jockey N. Callow entering the track, galloped riderless for a significant distance before being recaptured and was a late withdrawal at 1:02pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on GINGERBREAD BOY be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply –
 
1st place – 6c the win, 22c the place
2nd place – 19c the place
3rd place – 5c the place

Trainer A. Campton was advised the gelding would have to perform to the satisfaction of Stewards in an Official trial prior to next racing.
 
CASINO COAST – After being ridden hard from the outside gate, was unable to take up a forward position, steadied and settled at the rear. Apprentice J. Williams reported the gelding was not suited to racing on the synthetic surface.

GUS THE BUS – Jockey A. Spinks lost the use of his nearside rein for several strides passing the 250m.
 
DESTINY DALAI – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
WATERMELON – Slow to begin.
 
MISS HONEYCOMB – Began awkwardly and tailed the field throughout. Apprentice C. Waddell reported the filly, which was having its first race start, wasn’t suited to racing on the synthetic surface.
 
PEARL IN HAY – Raced wide for the majority. Jockey S. Cormack could offer no explanation for the performance of the filly.
 
SHE'S A FERRARI – Slow into stride.
 
Race 4: TAB BETS FRIENDS GCTC BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1900M
 
TROPIC SANDS – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
VOLDEMORT – Near the 1750m, steadied from the heels of PAGATO (L. Barr), which shifted in when not clear. Apprentice L. Barr was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
GIDDY GAN'S JOY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
ZOUY'S COMET – Change of tactics, to be ridden further forward. Slow to begin and settled in a midfield position.
 
Race 5: GLENFIDDICH FIRST WEANLINGS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1050M
 
ON MERIT – Passing the 800m, momentarily steadied from the heels of HALF MOON ROO (M. Cahill), which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey M. Cahill was advised to exercise greater care.
 
SOUTHERN DRAW – Slow to begin and then was tightened for room and lost ground.
 
MIDNIGHT MADNESS – Began awkwardly. Cast its off-fore plate in running.
 
PASS THE WINE – Jockey N. Callow could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of the gelding.
 
FACTNOT FICTION – Shortly after the start, laid in and was steadied from the heels of ON MERIT.
 
CHERBOURG – Shifted in on jumping.
 
ONATARE – Near the 600m, momentarily steadied from the heels of HALF MOON ROO (M. Cahill), which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey M. Cahill was advised to exercise greater care. Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 6: MEMBERS & MATES GCTC JUNE 29 BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1050M
 
FLAG HALL – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
RUSTIC BOOM – Jockey R. Wiggins was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) for using the whip on consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
 
SERIGALA – Near the 900m, momentarily steadied when racing tight to the inside of FLAG HALL which in turn was racing tight to the inside of SUNNY DAZE (N. Callow). Jockey N. Callow was advised to exercise greater care.
 
GHOST HUNTER – Began awkwardly.
 
MAGURO – Raced wide throughout.
 
SONNY DAZE – Raced wide throughout. Near the 500m, bumped and became badly unbalanced when FLAG HALL shifted out momentarily whilst racing keenly.
 
GREYZOUS – Began awkwardly.
 
Following this race, Stewards interviewed jockey N. Callow and apprentice J. Williams, relative to comments passed between them on pulling up. On the evidence, the matter was taken no further.
 
Race 7: TAB WE'RE ON OPEN HANDICAP 1200M
 
EASY SINGLE – Jockey B. Ward was reminded of his obligations when using his whip in an action which raises his arm above shoulder height
 
HODGSON – Raced wide throughout.
 
CENTAUR – Near the 1100m, steadied from the heels of GALAXY GENERAL (J. Williams) which shifted in when not clear. Apprentice J. Williams was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Cast its near-fore plate in running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the back of the geldings near-fore knee.
 
Race 8: JONKER FIRST WEANLINGS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1540M
 
TAKUNAI – Began awkwardly and then lost ground when tightened shortly after the start between CHAYSE ‘N’ ADAM, which shifted out and STORMTROOPER, which shifted in after being bumped.
 
GLEAMING LEGEND (NZ) – Shifted in at the start.
 
SUPER FAIR – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
STORMTROOPER – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide until the 900m. Approaching the winning post, apprentice S. Willis stopped riding to avoid causing interference to FIFTY CARATS, which improved quickly to the inside.
 
Race 9: A MOËT MOMENT MAY 24 CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200M
 
The start of this race was delayed when it was discovered that a number of horses had been inadvertently placed in the incorrect barriers. Those runners then had to be removed and reloaded into the correct barriers.
 
FLYING MILO – Passing the 600m was awkwardly placed between WHISKEY DANCER and SHEZA MARVEL, which rolled out slightly. Near the 150m, eased from the heels of MARLEEDOONE, which shifted out.
 
REPHRASE – Near the 800m, eased when tightened between WHISKEY DANCER and FOREBEARS, which when racing ungenerously, was taken out slightly by SHEZA MARVEL, which was racing keen and close to the heels of POLARISING. In all the circumstances, no action was taken against any one rider. Jockey N. Callow reported, although he struck some interference near the 800m, the gelding did not let down in the straight as expected and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
A CERTAIN MAYBE – As jockey R. Wiggins was to be overweight, he was replaced by Jockey A. Spinks. Jockey R. Wiggins was fined $200 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Raced wide throughout. Near the 150m, eased when tightened between YOUNG PIP and REPHRASE, which shifted out and away from FLYING MILO, which was being taken out at that stage by MARLEEDOONE (W. D’Avila), which was shifting ground under pressure. Jockey W. D’Avila was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
GLAMOURING – Near the 1000m, eased when tightened between FOREBEARS, which shifted out around the heels of POLARISING and REPHRASE, which after improving quickly to the inside of WHISKEY DANCER was taken in by that horse before corrected.
 
WHISKEY DANCER – Raced wide throughout. Passing the 1000m, momentarily steadied from the heels of VELVET (L. Barr), which shifted in when not fully clear. Apprentice L. Barr was advised to exercise greater care.
 
FOREBEARS – Approaching the 1000m, steadied when awkwardly placed to inside of POLARISING (J. Guthmann-Chester), which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester was advised to exercise greater care. Momentarily steadied near the 600m.
 
Following this race, Jockey N. Callow advised that he incurred some soreness to the left side of his chest.
