As a result, gelding was inclined to hang out round home turn. Laid in under pressure passing the 180m and steadied from heels. Tnr felt gelding may have got tongue over the bit & would consider a change of gear.

Prizeman stated to stewards that in SPITZBERG’s first and only start the gelding had begun awkwardly and as a result trailed the field for the remainder of that event. Trainer Prizeman also stated that SPITZBERG had been working well in the lead up to today’s event and had shown promise in its recent trials, and in his opinion was expecting a forward showing. When asked for a comment regarding the performance, rider stated that after jumping away awkwardly, POWERALONG settled further back than anticipated. Rider added that the gelding travelled well in the middle and final stages, however the poor start was detrimental to its chances. Trainer advised that POWERALONG may not have handled the back up for its most recent start at Bundaberg on the 7th of December and stated that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
