Extra Shot  Bumped heavily by another runner in the early stages of the event on a number of occasions. Stewards questioned apprentice B. Stower in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance of EXTRA SHOT. Apprentice Stower advised that the gelding failed to muster its customary early pace and as a result she was required to ride the horse along in the early stages to obtain a forward position. More Than a Rose  Slow to begin.Jockey R. McMahon was afforded the opportune to comment on the performance of the filly. He indicated after being slow to begin the horse travelled well enough in the middle stages and improved rounding the home turn. He added he was obliged to manoeuvre away from heels of a weakening horse near the 300m and had some difficulty securing clear running shortly thereafter. She said after being slow to begin, she rode her gelding along in an effort to improve and near the 900m improved on to heels and had to be steadied and lost ground. She added that the gelding commenced to hang out and continued to do so for the remainder of the event, which prevented her from riding with her usual vigour in the home straight. My Assignment  Bumped shortly after the start. Inquiry re tactics adopted in leading which was in contrast to its only start where it raced back in the field. Trainer S. Watters advised that at its only start at the Sunshine Coast on 29 May 2015 the gelding was slow to begin, raced greenly throughout and racing at the rear of the field. He also added today after beginning well and showing sufficient speed to take up a forward position, that it would now be his intention in future to issue similar instructions. Sharpe Hussler  When the pace commenced to slacken after passing the 1000m the gelding commenced to overrace and took charge of the rider and shifted in abruptly, becoming unbalanced. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg. Trainer B. Raced fiercely in the early stages and had to be checked away from heels after leaving the 800m and shifted out taking another runner wider on the track. Continued to race fiercely and had to be restrained from heels approaching the home turn. Trainer B.
