Began awk. When qtd re dis perf rdr std was instructed to lead & after rnrs to inside showed speed, was forced to urge mount fwd to ride to inst. Was forced to place mount under some pressure to find lead, where eventually travelled well early & middle stgs, however app 400m commenced to weaken & from that point failed to respond & was dis in its efforts to line. Post race vet exam revealed it to be suffering from muscle soreness & to have tied up post race. Trnr advised would now be spelled.

When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, jockey J. Byrne stated his instructions were to obtain a trailing position in order to give his mount a chance to finish the race off. He added that after settling in that position and asked to quicken rounding the home turn, the gelding failed to respond to his riding and, in his opinion, failed to handle the heavy track conditions.

App. Guthmann-Chester stated that the mare commenced to hang out rounding the first turn near the 1500m and continued to do so for the reminder of the event. Trainer B Baldwin was advised that the mare must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination
