Epic Rant
|
Held up during the early stages of the home straight and was obliged to shift out to secure clear running. When questioned as to the tactics adopted which appeared in contrast to the gelding’s most recent starts, Jockey M Cahill stated that he was instructed to allow the gelding to begin on its own terms and when placed wide in the early stages he elected to restrain to obtain a position with cover towards the rear of the field. Trainer M Costa will be interviewed at a later date.

|
Overraced in the early stages. P. Hammersley was questioned regarding his decision to shift out around STANLEY soon after straightening rather than improve to the inside of SCOUTABOUT. P. Hammersley explained that he was of the view that the better part of the track was three to four horses wide and for this reason he elected to shift out rounding the home turn, however, when STANLEY shifted out under pressure in the home straight, he was forced wider on the track than he had anticipated. Stewards noted his explanation.

When questioned, L. Ross explained that the mare was having its first start for his stable today. He added that he had previously nominated and accepted for Ipswich on Saturday 13 January but unfortunately the mare injured itself in transit to the course and was a late scratching on that occasion. He added that subsequent to that occasion the mare had won a trial at Deagon very comfortably and he had expected a forward showing from her today. The explanation was noted.

When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, jockey J. He was also of the view that the gelding would be better suited racing on a firmer surface than that of today’s event.

Upon returning to scale Jockey M McGillivray reported that from the awkward barrier he was obliged to pressure the gelding in the early stages to obtain a position closer to the fence which resulted in him racing further forward than anticipated. As a consequence, the gelding then over-raced during the middle stages and when racing close to the heels of DENBERN passing the 600m, he was obliged to shift out to improve earlier than he otherwise would have liked.
