When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer R Lyford explained that the gelding which was having its first start for the stable had worked reasonably, including a jump-out where it had performed competitively. Mr Lyford further added that he expected the gelding to be looking for distances further than that of todays event and was surprised by the win. He further added that with the fast tempo up front in a small field, this was a contributing factor to the gelding finishing the race off in the manner in which it did.
