Rdr reported his mnt did not appreciate the firmer track and he believed this to be the reason for the disappointing performance. A post-race vet exam revealed the gelding to be lame (1/5) in the off-hind leg. Tnr was told a vet clearance will be required prior to next race/trial. Vet clearance since received.

Rdr quest re tactics, in particular ride round h/turn where it appeared there was an opportunity to improve to outside, which would have availed clear run in h/straight. Rdr said considered improving to outside approaching 400m however, elected to hold line, as felt would be able to secure inside run entering h/straight-added surprised outside runner didn’t give ground in h/straight as anticipated, resulting in mount being held up until after 200m. Rdr conceded better option available.
