Rider stated rounding home turn, mount commenced to weaken & as a result he desisted from riding his mount out over the final 200m. Rider stated he was of opinion mount raced flat. Trainer stated to spell. Post race vet no abs. Warning recorded for being uncompetitive.

When questioned regarding tactics adopted rider K Cowan stated instructions were to attempt to lead however when runners improved to her inside approaching the 800 metres she was caught racing three wide without cover. Stewards, in assessing the ride of apprentice Cowan, advised in future she should show greater flexibility as the race unfolds, and not become too tied down to instructions and thus afford her mounts the best opportunity to finish their race off.

Hatch expressed disappointment with the performance and could offer no explanation in relation to today’s effort. Mr Hatch added that in light of today’s performance, he will now monitor the geldings post-race recovery before considering whether to continue with the gelding’s current preparation. Post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
