Tactics queried, Rider L Tarrant stated that he was beaten for speed in the early stages of the event so elected to shift down to the fence and follow LIEUTENANT. He further added than in the home straight his intentions were to get to the outside onto the crown of the track however this did not eventuate and the gelding laid in. He then elected to move back to the inside to gain clear running.

He added after gaining a position midfield on the back of STUCK WITH YOU, he then elected to maintain that position when LI’L RODGE improved three wide to take up a position in the lead, when it was reasonable for him to allow his mount to improve onto the back of LI’L RODGE. Further added that he didn't improve three wide as he was comfortable following STUCK WITH YOU, however, when STUCK WITH YOU gave ground, he was then taken back through the field and unable to improve.

He further added that after passing the 1400m the gelding dropped the bit and failed to respond to his urgings and proved disappointing over the concluding stages. Post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
