Cahill advised it was not his intention to settle so far back in the field today, however after being caught wide in the early stages, he was obliged to settle in a rearward position. He added he was able to work into the race leaving the 800m but was forced wider on the track from that point when riders to his inside shifted out to improve into the race.

Unable to muster speed in the early stages despite the efforts of its rider. Held up for clear running from the 250m until near the 100m before shifting wider on the track to improve. Approaching the finish line was disappointed for a run between MAROON MAGIC which marginally laid in under pressure and LES GIRLS which after initially laying in under pressure, shifted out when being corrected by its rider. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities.

When quest rdr stated he was inst to lead & he rode with vigour early in effort to do so. Rdr stated another runner kept improving with mount & passing 1000m he eased to sit back off it. Rdr stated mount travelled keenly, working hard within itself, from this point to 600m where it dropped bit & was very disappointing to line. Rdr stated manner in which filly raced in early & middle stages was to detriment sustaining finishing effort. Tnr agreed & advised filly would be ridden conservatively next start so as to sustain finishing effort. P/R vet exam revealed poor recovery rate. Vet cert PTNS.

When questioned in relation to the instructions adopted in today’s event rider stated that he had no firm instructions however with the recent addition of blinkers the gelding began well and for this reason he elected to take up a lead. When questioned in relation to the improved performance trainer stated that it is only her second start the gelding. Trainer added that in the most recent start at Dalby the gelding was slow away and had to do a lot of work early. Trainer stated that in her opinion the recent addition of blinkers was beneficial to the geldings performance.
