Stewards questioned trainer B. Laming regarding the horse's seemingly improved performance. Mr Laming noted that at the gelding's previous start it raced wide throughout and towards the rear of the field. He added that the gelding benefited today from the small field and was able to race closer to the speed. Stewards noted the explanation.

J. Taylor reported that after beginning reasonably, and as he did not want to be trapped three wide, he allowed his mount to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader passing the 1000m, but after doing so the gelding commenced to overrace and therefore he allowed it to stride to the lead and it continued to overrace for the majority of the event, which he believed may have had a bearing on its finishing effort where it tired over the final 200m.

When questioned regarding the horse's seemingly improved performance, trainer C. Munce advised that the gelding has been showing more ability in track work than it has in its race performances. He said that last start it travelled will in the run on the speed but failed to finish the race off over the concluding stages. Therefore, he elected to remove the blinkers for today's event. He added that the horse was having its third run back from a spell in the appropriate grade today and he was hopeful that the horse would race much better and he was not entirely surprised by its win.
