Became fractious in the float enroute to the track and bumped its head. The gelding was subsequently examined by the veterinary surgeon, and cleared to take its place in the field. Shifted a plate upon entering the enclosure, which was refitted before the gelding proceeded to the barriers. Slow into stride, and was restrained to take up a position at the rear of the field.

Shortly after the start slightly tightened when KEEN INSTINCT laid in. Proved disappointing over the concluding stages. Jockey J Morris reported at scale that his mount had a tendency to lay in throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Overraced early and middle stages.Apprentice B. Nothdurft could offer no explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance other than the horse in his opinion failed to handle the sand track. He also added that on return to the enclosure the horse had its tongue over the bit.
