Raced 3 wide without cover. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey R. Stewart indicated that after beginning only fairly and riding his mount forward he was obliged to race 3 wide, and stated he had given consideration to placing more pressure on his mount in an attempt to race forward and cross to the lead, however he did not feel the mare was travelling well enough to do so, indicating that BIMINI ROAD did not travel well throughout the event. His opinion overall was the horse proved disappointing. Stewards will interview trainer Mr R. Heathcote in the coming days in relation to

When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer R Lyford explained that the gelding which was having its first start for the stable had worked reasonably, including a jump-out where it had performed competitively. Mr Lyford further added that he expected the gelding to be looking for distances further than that of todays event and was surprised by the win. He further added that with the fast tempo up front in a small field, this was a contributing factor to the gelding finishing the race off in the manner in which it did.

Near the 1000m had to be steadied from the heels of JUNCTION which shifted in. When questioned as to the performance App. J Grob stated that the filly travelled into the race nicely, however, peaked on its run passing the 300 and in his opinion proved disappointing. App. Grob noted that a nasal strip had been added to the fillys gear for the first time today. App. Grob added that passing the winning post the filly made an abnormal respiratory sound and as such may benefit from the addition of a tongue tie. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

When questioned as to the horse’s performance, jockey J. Orman stated that the gelding was slow to begin and was then slow to muster speed, despite his efforts, before eventually obtaining a position outside the leader near the 1100m. Jockey Orman added that the gelding did not travel comfortably at any stage and failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure leaving the 500m and proved disappointing. Jockey Orman was of the opinion that the gelding may perform better when kept fresh for its races. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
