Shortly after the start was bumped on the hindquarters. Travelled keenly throughout the early and middle stages and hung out rounding the first turn near the 1000m. Jockey stated after improving onto heels near the 150m, he endeavoured to improve to the outside of the runner in advance but was aware of a runner to his outside and to ensure he didn’t cause interference to that runner, remained travelling in the position he had established. Jockey stated he again attempted to improve around heels near the 100m but runner remained to outside and remained held up and untestedfor entire final 150m.

When asked to comment on the below market performance rider B Thompson stated the colt failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure and was one paced throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Jockey B El-lssa was questioned regarding the tactics adopted. Jockey B El-lssa stated the instructions were not to lead. Stewards after speaking with trainer L Kelly Snr confirmed that he wanted the mare ridden quietly. Jockey B El-lssa explained that approaching the 1400m he raced tightly between runners and at that point had Jockey S Galloway to his outside and was obliged to settle in a rearward position on the rails. When questioned regarding the mare settling further forward today, jockey stated he was issued no specific instructions however hadn’t anticipated settling as far forward as his mount did. Stated after beginning on terms and runners to his inside failing to display early speed, his mount was able to improve forward and cross runners to his inside without significant physical exertion and take up a more prominent position than anticipated.

When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance Trainer S Field advised that he was not entirely disappointed with the performance of mare last start when racing first up from a significant spell on that occasion. He added with the benefit of race fitness and the engagement of a senior rider he had expected a forward showing from the mare in today’s event.
