Tired noticeably over the final 400m. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. When asked to comment regarding today’s performance Jockey Payne was of the opinion that the gelding may have got its tongue over the bit and “choked off”. Jockey Payne noted that the gelding commenced to weaken near the 800m. Trainer Campeao was advised that the gelding would have a Metropolitan and Provincial ban placed on it until such time its performances were more consistent.
