When questioned regarding the fast tempo of the race, rdr stated his instructions were to find a forward position. He added that at the time he did not feel as if the tempo of the race was too fast and that his mount was comfortable in the position that it was travelling. After viewing the patrol films, he agreed that the tempo of the race was perhaps too fast, however his mount was travelling in a comfortable position and that passing the 550m he did bring the gelding back. Stewards accepted his explanation.
