When questioned re the performance, rider stated that he attempted to settle in a handy position, however after his mount suffered interference shortly after the start he was forced to settle further back in the field then intended. He added his mount never to travel comfortably at any stage and failed to respond strongly in its efforts to the line. A post-race vet exam revealed no abnormalities. Expressed disappointment in performance, which may have been as a result of pressure applied in early stages. Vetted - no abnormalities.

In the presence of Jockey advocate Mr G Smith, stewards questioned App A Van Der Sanden regarding tactics to race 4 wide for the majority of the race. She stated that after beginning well from the wide draw and being caught 4 deep rounding the 1500 metre turn she initially considered restraining her mount to a trailing position, however OUR GRANDE FINALE soon after commenced to race keenly and as a result remained racing in a 4 deep position for a major portion of the race.
