When questioned regarding the performance jockey A Sewell stated that after being slow to begin, he was forced to race at the tail of the field in a race without much pace. He added that although he had to steady throughout the middle stages on a few occasions due to this pace, when he asked SERGEANT’S PRIDE for an effort, he was overall disappointed with the gelding’s response as it only went fairly to the line whereas he was under the impression that the gelding had more to offer.

Trainer T Button stated that the gelding was having it’s first race start for his stable since coming from Brisbane however stated that the gelding had been slow to begin at all its previous southern starts and advised that it was unfortunately a racing characteristic of the gelding. He advised that FINSCEAL will be better suited over longer distances than today’s race. Trainer T Button was advised that a warning was issued.
