When questioned regarding poor performance of the gelding Jockey could offer no explanation. Jockey explained after being in a favourable position early he placed his mount under pressure from the 600m however it commenced to weaken and failed to respond to his riding thereafter. Upon review of the start it was found the barrier gates sprung back striking the gelding however was not hampered as a consequence. Trainer advised Stewards the gelding had been treated for a cough in the week prior. A postrace veterinary exam revealed no abnormalities and the gelding's respiratory sounds were clear. |

Passing the 1300 metres had to be steadied when racing tight to the inside of another runner. For some distance after this raced in restricted room to the inside of that runner, and had to be checked and lost its rightful running near the 1100 metres when that runner shifted in marginally.
Approaching the 600 metres had to be steadied when held up behind another runner.
