Began awkwardly and was slow to muster speed in the early stages despite the efforts of its rider. Hung in rounding the home turn and shortly thereafter was obliged to steady from the heels of BOLD TRAVELLER, which shifted out. When asked to comment on today’s performance, jockey R. Wiggins stated that the gelding may be looking for distances further than that of today’s event, and also added that, in his opinion, it would appreciate racing on a larger track.

Held up for clear running near the 600m. Bumped by PRINCELY approaching the 400m and was unable to gain clear running until the final 150m. When questioned regarding his tactics, jockey C. Whitely stated he did not elect to ease wider approaching the 600m as he was trailing the favourite into the race and was mindful of the fact that the gelding was dropping back in distance. Jockey Whitely added that for some distance in the straight he was held up by runners to his outside, which prevented him from improving.

Rider questioned regarding tactics. She stated that her instructions were to race in a forward position, in accordance with the horse’s usual racing pattern. She said that after beginning fairly and failing to muster speed the mare raced at the rear of the field. Jockey Jokic added that in her opinion the mare may have resented the tongue tie, which was applied for today’s event. Trainer R. Vale concurred with jockey Jokic’s comments and said he felt the mare may have resented the tongue tie and therefore he will be removing that gear prior to its next start. Vetted, no abnormalities.
