When questioned re performance rider advised that the intention was to have the horse ridden prominently. He added however that the horse, which was standing awkwardly, missed the start (3L) and then was reluctant to muster speed. He added consequently he was obliged to race towards the rear of the field and after travelling well for a short distance then commenced to over race when the tempo steadied in the middle stages. McGovern reported that his mount raced keenly when caught wide in the early and middle stages, and as a result did not respond to his riding when placed under pressure.
