J. Lloyd was questioned regarding his tactics, whereby the horse settled midfield, which was in contrast to the horse’s most recent starts where it has led. He indicated that when he last rode the horse he had been instructed to settle the horse with cover, however the horse overraced when wearing blinkers. At its subsequent start, when ridden by G. Goold, the blinkers had been removed and despite this the gelding again overraced and was obliged to settle in the lead. With this in mind, stewards were satisfied that as no tactical change had occurred, no further action was taken.

He indicated that despite his urgings the horse couldn’t muster speed and he was obliged to pressure his mount for the majority of the event. He also added that the horse laid in significantly under pressure in the straight, placing him at a disadvantage from the 300m onwards.

She stated that it was no her intention to lead or to reduce the pace, however the mare relaxed more than she had expected and and as a result horses which were racing directly behind her had to be steadied. Ms Schmidt was advised to be mindful of the consequences of steadying the pace when in a leading position. Lost the near hind plate in running.
