Pulled hard in the early stages and approaching the 800m turn commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of HARRY’S ME BOY. When questioned regarding tactics rounding the home turn, apprentice J Molloy stated that upon straightening his mount was travelling well and rather than alter course to the inside of MR STORM (NZ), he elected to allow his mount to lay out to improve to the outside of that runner in a effort to keep his momentum. He added that when doing so, MR STORM(NZ) laid out and SCARE CAMP

When questioned regarding the performance, jockey M Cahill could offer no explanation for the performance. He added his mount travelled well throughout the event but failed to respond when asked for an effort. Trainers representative M Laming advised stewards that TANGO TINO was stepping up to the 1650m today and may not have handled the distance rise. She added that intentions would now be to freshen up the mare and drop back in distance to a 1400m.

Rider dropped his whip near the 150m. Hung in over the final 100m proving difficult to ride out before being checked over the concluding stages when placed in restricted room. Rider reported that the gelding had a good run throughout the event where it travelled comfortably throughout. Rider added that the gelding quickened for only a short distance and from the 200m had peaked on its run and, in his opinion, proved disappointing over the concluding stages of the event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Jockey stated shortly after start, he steadied his mount when buffeted between runners & as a result settled in the second half of the field. Jockey stated approaching home turn mount became held up on heels & continued to do so rounding home turn & during the early part of straight. Jockey stated near the 300m, a run presented to the outside of heels & as he directed mount out around heels, the running closed & mount was disappointed for clear run. Remained held up until shifting inwards & est clear run at 100m.
