Rdr stated app 500m she was obliged to shift wide & commence working into a sprint when the runners in advance of her mount were failing to improve as she had hoped. Rdr stated mount was obliged to shift wide rounding h/turn & ground its way to the line from its rearward position. Rdr stated her mount was not suited by the manner in which the race was run, in particular having to be presented early & sustain a long sprint. P/R vet no ab's.

Shortly after the start, crowded between runners and had to be steadied. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice Z. Sprie stated that after being crowded shortly after the start and settling in a rearward position, MIDNIGHT BOOM was not suited by the fast early pace of the race and in the middle stages was reluctant to apply pressure to the mare until leaving the 500m at which point MIDNIGHT BOOM responded well to his riding. Apprentice Sprie added that MIDNIGHT BOOM, in his opinion, is better suited in races over a longer distance than that of today.

Rdr std his intention to lead, however, after being bumped after the start, his mnt didn’t show sufficient speed to obtain fwd position, he shifted behind runners to a rear position, adding mnt then raced keenly in early & middle stages &, after placing mnt under pressure from 500m, it didn’t respond to his riding. Rdr std, after riding mnt aggressively from 500m, as it had not made up any appreciable ground on the field & he was still positioned towards rear of the field, he did not ride mnt out over the final 250m. A post-race vet exam revealed no abs.
