LAUREN ABBOTT
Queensland Off-The-Track proudly introduces Lauren Abbott as a QOTT Acknowledged Retrainer.
Lauren joins our team with extensive riding experience, having competed to a high level in both eventing and dressage, before becoming a jockey. Lauren rode over 300 winners throughout Victoria and Queensland and although she was extremely busy on the racetrack, she always found time to retrain retired racehorses off the track. Since 2018, Lauren has been a licensed Thoroughbred Trainer based at Eagle Farm in Brisbane and has trained many winners. Most of Lauren’s horses have been tried horses that have come to her with various ailments that she has worked through to get them back to performing their best on the track.
After retiring from race riding, Lauren chose to focus more on retraining off the track horses, including ‘Homehill’, who she took on after he bowed two tendons. Lauren rehabilitated and retrained ‘Homehill’, resulting in his success in dressage and eventing, including eventually being crowned Equestrian Australia Event Horse of the Year in 2018.
“My background in race riding and trackwork means I am familiar with working with Thoroughbreds. Dressage is my favourite discipline so most of the horses that are rehomed by me are very good at dressage. I always make sure I have given them several outings so their new owners don't need to be worried about them lacking exposure at events, when they are ready to take them out to competitions themselves.”
Lauren is a member of Equestrian Australia and Logan Village Riding Club. As her property is close to many equestrian venues, horses being retrained by Lauren benefit from the use of these facilities, in addition to exposure at local competitions.
