KEIRA BYRNES
Queensland Off-The-Track proudly introduces Keira Byrnes as a QOTT Acknowledged Retrainer.
Keira will need no introduction to those within the equestrian community, having competed successfully in multiple equestrian disciplines including elite level Eventing, Grand Prix Showjumping and medium level Dressage. Riding since a young age, Keira’s efforts and commitment to equestrian sport led her to boast a riding resume topped with being named on the 2011 shadow Olympic team after competing her off-the-track Thoroughbred ‘Fox Hill’ (raced as ‘Trust No One’) successfully at 5***** level eventing.
Throughout her life, Keira has worked at numerous stables and studs, including racing stables, which has allowed her love for the off-the-track thoroughbreds to flourish. Since 2006, and amongst other work, Keira has been running her successful equine business ‘Synergy and Freedom’, where she utilises her expertise in riding, training, coaching, various bodywork modalities and skills as a qualified human chiropractor to offer holistic solutions to equine wellbeing and performance.
Keira brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with retraining retired racehorses. She begins all of her retraining work establishing understanding of the horse from the ground, incorporating Equine Science International principles to build basic aids before progressing to further training depending on the individual requirements of each horse. Keira has a passion for working with thoroughbreds and ensuring “they have the best possible encore career in whatever field they are most suited”. Keira has found most of her competition success over the years in partnerships with OTTs and she wants to continue to help horses find their ideal second careers.
“It is one of my goals in life to see as many OTTs as possible find their ideal homes – partly through retraining, but also through improving rider knowledge and skills so that they are set up to train their own OTTs in the future.”
Keira holds a Diploma in Equine Therapeutic Acupuncture from the International College of Equine Therapies (Australia) as well as other modalities including craniosacral therapy, dynamic neuromuscular stabilisation and more.
