NAIDOC Celebration Artwork Competition

Racing Queensland (RQ) is inviting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists to design the latest NAIDOC Celebration Artwork, which will be showcased during the RQ NAIDOC Celebration Races across the three codes of racing. This initiative is part of RQ’s ongoing commitment to reconciliation and building stronger connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, businesses, and communities.

Design Brief

Submissions must:

  • Depict the story of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and non-Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people coming together to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture within the racing industry.
  • Be authentic, original works of the submitting artist, who must own the copyright of the design.
  • Include sketches, research, and a brief background on the design inspiration and story.

Eligibility

  • Open to Queensland-based Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, both emerging and established.
  • Submissions are individual entries only.

 

Prizes

The winning artist will receive:

  • $2,000 cash prize
  • A framed set of racing silks featuring their design
  • An invitation to the RQ NAIDOC Celebration Races in 2025

  • Opens: December 20, 2024, 10 AM AEST
  • Closes: February 21, 2025 5 PM AEST, (late submissions will not be accepted)
