GREYHOUND SWEEPSTAKES COMPETITION

- Dogs must be benched from 8.45 am. Gates open at 6 am.
The aim of the Racing Queensland Greyhound Sweepstakes competition is to promote the Racing Greyhound from puppy, preparation for racing, racing and of course retirement. Also, the greyhounds’ versatility, suitability and adaptability to retirement into a forever home, outside of the Racing Industry.
Entrants will enjoy the pride and camaraderie in showing, and they’ll also have the chance to win prizemoney, trophies, sashes, and the highly sought-after 'Best of Breed' title.
Judging will take place in the Canine Pavilion, and the public is encouraged to walk through the pavilion to acquaint themselves with the greyhounds and their handlers.
Competition Information
Parking
Exhibitors with a vehicle and dog trailer can park in the designated canine exhibitor parking area located on Alexandria Street, open from 6am. You will be required to pre-book parking once entries open, and permits will be issued on a first in first served basis.
Exhibitors entering with a vehicle without a trailer will be able to park in the King Street Car Park (max height 2.2m). Please note, parking in the King Street Car Park cannot be pre-booked - there are 275 parking spaces available each day of the show. For vehicles higher than 2.2m, exhibitors will need to book trailer parking.
Junior Handler
There has been an addition of a Junior Handler class for Racing Greyhounds. This will be held after the Sweepstakes. The exhibitor and their guardian will receive an entry ticket into Ekka.
Prize Money and Appearance Fees
The winner of each category will receive between $200 to $500 with their blue ribbon, and exhibitors will again be paid a $100 appearance fee, an incentive that was introduced by Racing Queensland in 2022.
