A seasoned UBET Summer Crowns campaigner and two new kids on the block have helped Brisbane’s premier trainer Tony Gollan surge to the top of the $50,000 UBET Summer Crowns Trainers’ Bonus standings.
Gollan starred on Lough Neagh Stakes day at Doomben, taking the feature race for a third straight year with Most Important, after earlier feature two-year-old wins via Ef Troop (Phelan Ready Stakes) and Outback Barbie (Calaway Gal Stakes).
Ef Troop’s stunning 5-1/4 length win saw bookmakers install the Spirit Of Boom colt as the early favourite to win next month’s $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
“Ef Troop might be favourite now but the market is likely to change a few times yet before the race,” Gollan said.
“I was really pleased how he did it today even though it was only a small field. He’s got such a high cruising speed and he’ll be even better after this run.”
Gollan will bypass the McLachlan Stakes with Ef Troop and head straight for the Magic Millions. And, with Tony Sears’ speedy Ardoyne Road being spelled for the Winter Carnival, Outback Barbie appears to be the only horse in contention to claim the $500k 2YO Summer Crown bonus.

The Toby Edmonds-trained Whypeeo is a chance to claim the 3YO Summer Crown, after he held off hot favourite Pierata in the Gold Edition. He would have to win the Vo Rogue Plate on December 30 and the Magic Millions 3YO Classic to claim the $500k bonus.

Villiers Stakes winner Crack Me Up is likely to bypass the $300,000 Bernborough Handicap and the potential $100,000 bonus double. Sydney based horses Cabeza De Vaca, Interlocuter and Mighty Lucky could still claim a $50,000 bonus, if connections aim up to win the Bernborough on December 30.
Most Important returned to the form which saw him claim an inaugural UBET Summer Crowns bonus, after he won the Lough Neagh Stakes. He must now win The Buffering on December 30, and either the Magic Millions Cup or Magic Millions Sprint earn another $400k in bonus money.
