It will be business as normal at Doomben on Saturday for trainer Steve O’dea following another luckless Magic Millions.
O’dea was plagued with bad luck leading into the Magic Millions Classic when his star juveniles Singular Sensation and Katy’s Daughter were ruled out of the $2 million feature with injury.
Luck also deserted O’dea when his three runners, Candika, She’s Miss Devine and Sir Moments all failed on the $10 million raceday.
However, O’dea has moved on from his Magic Millions disappointment where his best result was with Candika who ran third to Capitalist in the Magic Millions Classic in 2016.
O’dea’s attention now turns to Dream Kisses in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap (1350m) at Doomben.
Dream Kisses is a half-sister to Katy’s Daughter and has been a model of consistency with four straight placings.
Her record stands at two wins and eight placings from 13 starts.
The three-year-old started her current run when runner-up to the talented Cooroi Chase on a heavy track at Doomben on November 18 before finishing third to Pretty Fast in the Listed Mode Plate at Doomben two weeks later.
Dream Kisses showed her versatility with another close second on a heavy track at Ipswich on December 27 before starting the New Year with yet another second behind Bat A Kat at the Gold Coast on January 6.
“She deserves another win,” O’dea said.
“She was caught three wide and had no luck behind Bat A Kat but all her runs this time in have been good.
“She was strong to the line last time and going to 1350 metres will suit her better.”
Dream Kisses is owned by north Queensland cane farmer George Rapisarda, the driving force behind O’dea’s decision to move to Brisbane to further his training career in 2009.
Dream Kisses and Katy’s Daughter are both daughters of O’dea’s former star Kiss Me Katy who was raced and bred by Rapisarda.
Kiss Me Katy helped put O’dea on the map as a trainer shortly after moving south and gave him his first Brisbane winner and first Stakes winner after claiming the Listed Sir Douglas Wadley Stakes in 2009.
She finished her career with four wins from 14 starts including a Group 3 placing in the San Domenico Stakes at Randwick.
