Racing Queensland will offer Cairns-based greyhound trainers travel subsidies of $150 per-meeting when they participate at Townsville Greyhound Racing Club meetings from 1 January 2019.
Each trainer must have at least one starter at a Townsville meet to receive the $150 payment.
Payments will be made in addition to the $50 per-greyhound appearance fee and any prize monies earned.
The offer will be extended to trainers who reside within, or north of, the 4859 post-code and will only apply to meetings at Townsville.
The payment will be offered until 30 June 2019, at which time, Racing Queensland will undertake a review of the offer.
The offer comes after RQ’s decision not to extend the Cairns Greyhound Racing Club’s license beyond 31 December 2018.
Cairns Greyhound Track will remain open as a training and trialing facility under the Cairns Jockey Club’s license.
