Celebrity coach Terry Hill said last night's 2019 TAB Origin Greyhound Series was all about "revenge" and that's exactly what his New South Wales team inflicted on Queensland at Albion Park.
New South Wales won the shield for the first time after winning the TAB Origin Distance (Poco Dorado) and the TAB Origin Match Race (Feral Franky).
Speedy Queenslander Dam Slippery took full advantage of Box 1 to win the TAB Origin Sprint for Brett Hazelgrove, but it wasn't enough for the maroons, who went down 2-1 in front of a vocal Brisbane crowd.
Most pundits had tipped Queensland to win the Distance event but it was the John Finn-trained Poco Dorado who justified a late betting surge to win the 710m test in 41.79sec.
New South Wales then headed to the sprint looking to wrap up the series with the likes of Golden Easter Egg winner Zipping Bailey and Million Dollar Chase winning Mystic Riot.
But a tenacious front-running display from the Brett Hazelgrove-trained Dam Slippery saw Queensland level the series.
An emotional Hazelgrove said; "She's a gutsy little girl. She gives her all every time she goes out. I'm so proud of her."
Star youngster Feral Franky was rated a $1.15 chance to win the match race, and he too justified his short quote, overcoming a brave Infrared Star to hand New South Wales the shield.
