RACE TWO
Heats for this final were held 10 days ago with STUDLEIGH STRIDE (9) finishing a 5m 2nd to THUNDER MAC in his heat. From this same gate in that heat, he tracked home strongly running some smart closing panels. An all the way winner 2 starts back in a new career benchmark, with even luck in transit, he can arrive in this. BRIAN WHO (3) has placed his past 3 starts including a 3rd in his heat. Holding the front from gate 1, he released when THUNDER MAC came calling and held on when 8m in arrears. Finding the front from gate 4 over the AP mile the start prior, he was softened in front and fought gamely for 2nd. He will be in the fight again. THUNDER MAC (10) shoots for the hat-trick after successive wins here on the triangle over the sprint trip. Both wins have been strong and seen him run smart sections when wide on the track. He will be tough to beat again. MAJESTIC KIWI (8) started fav in his heat from gate 3, but with no lead was forced to roll the sleeves and do the hard yards in the breeze. Only 2m from the winner, it was a nice effort and with a trail home here will be sprinting hard. SELECTIONS: STUDLEIGH STRIDE (9), BRIAN WHO (3), THUNDER MAC (10), MAJESTIC KIWI (8) SUGGESTED BET: STUDLEIGH STRIDE (9) to win
RACE THREE
PROFICIENT (2) was given a freshen through June and returned back on Jul 5 when securing a cosy trip and finishing over the top to claim a stylish win over the AP 2138m trip. His next start saw him really attack the line late when within 5m of the winner. This is a drop from his last start and he looks to get his chance. RANDOM TASK (8) started from gate 10 over the 2040m here last start and sent around them early as the ruling fav, couldn’t go on with it in the closing stages. His run the start prior over the 2138m at AP was a solid effort when wide for a long way and beaten a pimple. He can throw down a challenge. TRAIN WRECK (5) has hit form and lines up here in search of a hat-trick. His win last start over the AP mile was a top effort after being shuffled back and looking to be in a forlorn position yet he sprouted wings late to arrive. He is right in this. DARKERSHADEOFPALE (7) returned from a spell in the G3 Frith Stakes when only 6m from the winner REDBANK ADDI. Fading after leading them up in mares only company when 2nd up, at her best this would be within reach. SELECTIONS: PROFICIENT (2), RANDOM TASK (8), TRAIN WRECK (5), DARKERSHADEOFPALE (7) SUGGESTED BET: PROFICIENT (2) to win
RACE FOUR ONE WISE MAN (8) arrived in time to take victory over the 2138m trip 2 starts back after a solid tempo was set from the front. Retreating early from gate 6 last start, he was attacking the line strongly in the latter stages to grab the bronze. In a typically open claimer, he can swoop to score. CASINO TOMMY (5) is yet to hit the board in 3 appearances here at Redcliffe, yet those 3 outings were all in much stronger Band assessed events. Starting fav last start, he was doing the heavy lifting and was in for the fight when runner-up to COMPLY OR DIE. Despite the gate, he can challenge hard. RORY MACH (4) is on the back-up from Wed night where he took on a slightly easier claimer. He worked home well 2 starts back and settling handy from this alley will be running on in the stretch. BLUE POINTER (1) is also on the back-up from Wed night where he was starting from this same gate. 2 starts back he had a shot for the front from gate 5 before fading out. From the ace he is in the mix.
SELECTIONS: ONE WISE MAN (8), CASINO TOMMY (5), RORY MACH (4), BLUE POINTER (1) SUGGESTED BET: ONE WISE MAN (8) to win
RACE FIVE
The 2019 Patrons Purse may not have a full-field yet it still shapes as an intriguing contest with some talented performers to do battle. After his last start 4YO Championship victory, BILL HALEY (5) can look to go back-to-back. 2 from 2 here on the triangle after a pair of impressive restricted wins, his 4YO win was a stylish effort when swooping late to score. With a solid tempo he can arrive again. CRUZ (2) has slick moves out of the machine and last start from gate 1 looked to take them all the way over the mile and set an electric tempo when only collared late by JOSSIE JAMES who had the cold sit on him. He arrived for a smart win over the 2138m 3 starts back and from the gate gets the chance to fire the 1st shot here. JOSSIE JAMES (8) was too slick in the closing stages last start after securing a perfect trip in the pocket trail and sprinting late to score. That win equalled the mares track record over the 1660m at AP and followed a tough run in the breeze the week prior when ANIIKA MAGIC set the same record. A two-time winner here on the triangle, look for her swooping hard. OUR UNCLE SAM (1) will be looking to defend the trophy, having claimed this race back in 2018. Fading under a mountain of work last week in the Blacks A Fake, he will need to hustle hard to protect the pegs, his race likely to be decided in the 1st 100m. SELECTIONS: BILL HALEY (5), CRUZ (2), JOSSIE JAMES (8), OUR UNCLE SAM (1) SUGGESTED BET: BILL HALEY (5) to win
RACE SIX STOMPEM (2) claimed a smart victory at AP 5 starts back when snagged back from gate 7 and then taking all the short-cuts arrived for the prize. In his 4 runs since that victory, he has landed the 2nd line on each occasion. His run on Sat behind TOM ME GUN was full of merit and he looks well-placed against this field. TUESDAYS FELLA (4) found the pocket trail 2 starts back and using the passing lane went within a half-neck of victory. Settling back in the pack last start he was hitting the line in nice style to be within 4m of the winner. His record over the longer trip is not great, but in this field will get his chance. PITTSWORTH MAN (1) has handed over from this gate at his past 2 starts and then not been far away on each occasion. He chased home for the silver behind the smart LIFES BLACK 2 starts back and can place again here. RIVERLEIGH WILLIAM (6) didn’t have much luck looking for space last start when snagged back from gate 6 at AP. His run the start prior in a qualifier had merit and he can be thereabouts with some luck.
SELECTIONS: STOMPEM (2), TUESDAYS FELLA (4), PITTSWORTH MAN (1), RIVERLEIGH WILLIAM (6) SUGGESTED BET: STOMPEM (2) to win
RACE SEVEN
Appreciating a return to this type of grade ARK ME (7) will have early options as the lone 2nd line runner. Taking on the South East and Qld Oaks at her past 2, her effort was good behind OUR PRINCESS TIFFANY in each. A passing lane 3rd in the Redcliffe Oaks 3 starts back, she gets her chance. JUST JOSHIN (1) has been in the money at 4 of his past 5 starts, the latest when sent to the breeze from the 2nd line and fighting hard to be 5m from the winner. His run 2 starts back was a nice effort when 7m from PROCUREMENT and although a risk early from the gate, he can challenge. MY ULTIMATE STAR (3) is unbeaten in 2 Qld starts but will have to take a step here, taking on the older horses. Tough from the breeze last start, he will have to get beyond 1740m for the 1st time, yet he can still feature. DEVOUGED (4) might just find this race a little easier than recent outings and if able to slide across heels early, might just get a cheap run which will suit. A winner when positioned 3 poles at AP 4 starts back, he can chime in. SELECTIONS: ARK ME (7), JUST JOSHIN (1), MY ULTIMATE STAR (3), DEVOUGED (4) SUGGESTED BET: ARK ME (7) to win
RACE EIGHT MONTANA EXPRESS (6) found his race last start when able to press forward from the 2nd line to the breeze and was then too strong in claiming a 2m victory. He was warming up to that after successive 2nd placed runs and while this is a rise, the winning confidence and small field should suit his hopes. MINTED MONTANA (1) started from gate 4 last start and into the 1st turn over the 1780m was never comfortable at all and needed plenty of time to be balanced. Pressing on to the breeze, he couldn’t go on with it late, having his 1st start in 8 weeks an only 2nd run in 12 months. Fitter for the run and drawn an inside gate he should be better suited. IMPRESSIVE DIAMOND (3) has placed at her past 2 starts, the latest when lighting the lamps and with an even tempo was gunned down late. If she can limit the work, she can be thereabouts.
SELECTIONS: MONTANA EXPRESS (6), MINTED MONTANA (1), IMPRESSIVE DIAMOND (3) SUGGESTED BET:
