RACE TWO
3 heats of this series were held last week and this Final shapes as a great contest. Working hard in his heat from gate 5, LITTLE BOLT (7) was in for the fight when only 3m in arrears of the winner. A smart all the way winner here the starts prior over this trip, he just needs the 1 to get him to the lane to fire winning bullets. TODAYS HERO (5) was also forced to work hard in his heat, rolling forward from gate 4 to apply the pressure. In for the fight, it took the passing lane run of MISS KEESHA to grab him by a neck. He might need to roll the sleeves again here, but with a smart record here on the triangle, he will fight. HEEZ PERFECT (10) will take great benefit from his run last week, when 1st up from a break. Spearing out to lead from gate 4, he only weakened the closing stages, beaten under 3m. If the tempo is frenetic, he is the off-pace runner to watch. MISS KEESHA (2) made the most of an incident in the run last start to drop down to the pegs at a vital stage and then sprint lane to the prize. Her 2nd 3 starts back was big and she is in the mix here. SELECTIONS: LITTLE BOLT (7), TODAYS HERO (5), HEEZ PERFECT (10), MISS KEESHA (2) SUGGESTED BET: LITTLE BOLT (7) to win
RACE THREE KURAHAUPO GAMBLER (10) was luckless here last start from gate 6 when looking for position before retreating and sitting last as they raced in single file, more than 20m from the leader. With the race set up for a last panel scamper, he was always facing a task. In an open contest, he is worth a chance. BUCKHORN EXCHANGE (4) went to the pegs looking for short-cuts in a qualifier last start and was sound to the line behind the winner MONTANA CHIEF. He worked home nicely 2 starts back to grab the bronze behind TROUBLESOME DAVE and settling close enough here can make a challenge. SPRINGFIELD SPIRIT (8) will take benefit from his latest outing when returning from a freshen after 5 weeks between runs. Back in the pack from gate 9, he was closing out nicely and with a similar trip can chime in here. FAT KENNYS DROP (3) will be further tightened from his latest appearance when 2nd up from a break of over 12 months. Facing a task against the tempo last start, he can fire out early here and is in the mix.
SELECTIONS: KURAHAUPO GAMBLER (10), BUCKHORN EXCHANGE (4), SPRINGFIELD SPIRIT (8), FAT KENNYS DROP (3) SUGGESTED BET: KURAHAUPO GAMBLER (10) each-way
RACE FOUR ZARAS HEAVEN (4) looked to have worked across from gate 2 over the sprint trip here last week, but wasn’t quite clear and the horse inside clipped her wheel, flattened it and put her out of business after 250m. That followed a 1st up win and a grinding 2nd and from the gate she can search for redemption. ALOT OF COST (6) has no favours from the wide gate, but if able to position cheaply, he will come into calculations. Working home in good order from back in the pack last start from the 2nd line, he wasn’t too far away in grabbing the bronze. Some good efforts from bad gates lately, he can feature. OURS TO KEEP (2) has placed in both her career starts to date and while this is a tough ask 3rd up, there has been enough to like in both runs that she can be in the mix again here with the added experience. FORTES IN FIDE (9) was forced to roll the sleeves and do the heavy lifting last start in the breeze at Marburg. In for the fight, he was only 5m from the winner RAGING INFERNO and has podium claims here.
SELECTIONS: ZARAS HEAVEN (4), ALOT OF COST (6), OURS TO KEEP (2), FORTES IN FIDE (9) SUGGESTED BET:
RACE FIVE SHERIFF JUJON (8) is unlucky not to be going around in the Knights & Dames Final in Race 2 after a luckless run in the heats. Snagging back from gate 6 he was strong to the line in finishing 4m from the winner after a strong closing 800m burst. With even luck in transit he can look to atone here. GRIZZLY MONTANA (5) claimed victory here 2 starts back when working home wide off the track and packing too many guns in the process to score a 2m win. Rolling forward from gate 10 last start working through the middle stages against stronger opponents, he was game to the line and can loom large here.
TORQUE WITH ESTEEM (4) found the front from gate 3 last time out and setting a good tempo was collared in the latter stages to be 2m from the winner YKIKAFIL. Firing out again, she will be gripping on. BETTING BARON (7) started from gate 10 last time out and was a long way back in the pack when closing out strongly for the silver. A tough winner here 2 starts back, look for him probing for openings.
SELECTIONS: SHERIFF JUJON (8), GRIZZLY MONTANA (5), TORQUE WITH ESTEEM (4), BETTING BARON (7) SUGGESTED BET: SHERIFF JUJON (8) to win
RACE SIX ALWAYS IN COMMAND (6) will find this more to his liking after being given his chance last start in the Be Good Johnny Sprint. Facing a tough draw with plenty of speed underneath, he retreated and then was just too far back. Winning his previous 7 in succession, 5 of those here on the triangle including a 1780m track record, he can bounce back with a bang. OUR MAJOR DAY (2) led them up last start over the AP mile and after being stared down in front, ran the opening 800m in a sizzling 56.5 sec. Followed with a sun 28 3rd panel, he felt the effects and faded out. Banished to the trials, he earns the ticket back after a sharp trial here in good time when never asked to extend and will give them something to chase. RED CHARMER (1) has a perfect record here at the Peninsula with 2 from 2 and from the ace gate has claims to keep it that way. Not far from BODHI TREE last start, she will be locked and loaded ready for the closing shot. ALE ALE KAI (8) steps up in class here, but with the right run in transit can be swooping home in the latter staged. 3m in arrears when holding 3rd in a mares qualifier last start, she can close strongly here.
SELECTIONS: ALWAYS IN COMMAND (6), OUR MAJOR DAY (2), RED CHARMER (1), ALE ALE KAI (8) SUGGESTED BET: ALWAYS IN COMMAND (6) to win
RACE SEVEN WECANONLYHOPE (7) took on the 2138m at AP last start and from gate 4 eased back to find the poles and look for the shortest way home. It was a tidy effort when not too far away and was a handy return after being banished to the trials the start prior. If the 1 can hold them wide, she will be coiled and ready to strike. SHADYS DELIGHT (5) should find this his easiest assignment since resuming for his 3YO term. With 4 starts back this term all against stronger opponents than he will meet here, he has been able to record 1 2nd. That came 2 starts back when holding down the silver behind the smart TIZ A SIZZLER. Despite the tough gate, he can challenge. AROONA (6) thread the needle to score here 2 starts back in a race similar to this. Not too far away from inside the 2nd line last start, if able to limit the burn from the wide gate, he can chime in late. DOWNTOWN LUCCA (2) couldn’t work into it last start from back in the pack over this trip. His run 2 starts back was a sound effort and from this gate, settling handy he can fill the exotics.
SELECTIONS: WECANONLYHOPE (7), SHADYS DELIGHT (5), AROONA (6), DOWNTOWN LUCCA (2) SUGGESTED BET: WECANONLYHOPE (7) to win
RACE EIGHT These Redcliffe maidens are always tough and this week’s combatants boast a combined total of 186 starts without a visit to victory lane. Getting closer to his moment of glory, LANOCH BOY (7) has placed his past 3 in succession, run down in front as the fav in each. He will get the chance to chase here and with a cosy trip can make the closing shot a winning one. NAUGHTYINHEAVEN (1) steps out for the Tony Turpin operation for the 1st time, having been off the scene since July. Her recent form has been against much stronger opponents than she will face here and with a tidy trial to prepare for the return, she is a big player in this. HURRIKANE SPECIAL (3) was locked away 4 back on the poles last start and the race was gone when she saw any space behind CHEESANDKISSES. A nice 3rd here 2 starts back, can see her in the mix here. MAYWYNS HONEY (5) has no favours from this gate and last time out was wore down when leading them up from gate 2 to finish mid-field. With even luck in transit, she can chime into the exotics.
SELECTIONS: LANOCH BOY (7), NAUGHTYINHEAVEN (1), HURRIKANE SPECIAL (3), MAYWYNS HONEY (5) SUGGESTED BET: LANOCH BOY / NAUGHTYINHEAVEN (1/7) quinella
RACE NINE IM SANDY BAY (5) had been knocking on the door with some handy performances as she was searching for what was proving to be a very elusive maiden victory. Last start from gate 9 she finally put it together to cruise home to score at career start 44. Despite the gate, she can go back-to-back. BEEF CITY STARZZZ (8) settled in the running line from the 2nd gate at AP last start and was well beaten behind the all the way winner SIXENNY RED. He has been getting a long way back in his races at his past 3 starts from wide gates, but settling closer here, can look to swoop home over the top. WHATA STRIDE (7) will be needing a slice of luck on her side from this gate and might even look to get away from the pegs early. In the money at 4 of her past 5 starts, she can be thereabouts again. BRONSKI BABY (2) broke his maiden status 2 starts back at Marburg when finishing best to arrive for a narrow victory. Locked away last start, he can be close enough to chime in when it gets serious.
SELECTIONS: IM SANDY BAY (5), BEEF CITY STARZZZ (8), WHATA STRIDE (7), BRONSKI BABY (2) SUGGESTED BET: IM SANDY BAY (5) to win
