Racing Queensland has announced it will donate $15,000 to the Bush Fire Appeal.
During the opening of the Magic Millions Yearling Sale today, RQ CEO Brendan Parnell made the announcement, just days after industry representatives including Thoroughbred Breeders Australia revealed their support.
Earlier this week, TBA announced vendors at this week’s Sale would donate $500 for every horse sold, with more than $300,000 expected to be generated through the initiative.
The Magic Millions and its naming rights sponsor, The Star Gold Coast, also announced donations to bush fire relief.
Further fundraising will continue during the Magic Millions Carnival with more than 20,000 people expected to attend Saturday’s raceday.
RQ is encouraging its clubs and participants to assist – where they can – with the fundraising appeal.
In North Queensland, the Townsville Greyhound Club has announced it will donate $250 for every ‘red dog’ that salutes at Friday night’s meeting.
The initiative was sparked after Townsville trainer, Rhonda Essery, and her husband, Stephen, committed $500 to the NSW Rural Fire Service, which was matched by fellow trainer Robbie Lowndes.
