The Dawson Jockey Club in Taroom has benefited from a $108,000 upgrade through the delivery of new tie-up stalls and a fenced patron area.
Having completed the project late last year, the works ensure greater safety for both horses and raceday patrons and was funded via the Palaszczuk Government’s four-year, $70.4 million Country Racing Support Package.
“The Dawson Jockey Club is an integral part of the social fabric in Taroom,” RQ General Manager Club Partnerships and Assets Melinda Martin said.
“It’s fantastic to be able to support regional Queensland through our Country Racing Program and continue to see the great results it delivers for country clubs like the Dawson Jockey Club.”
With rain forcing the 2019 Taroom Cup to be re-scheduled from September to December, the new works were completed in time for the event.
“We are very happy with the completed work,” Dawson Jockey Club Racing Co-ordinator Graham Rewald said.
“It’s so pleasing to have licensees and the public come forward to compliment the club on the work that had been done.
“I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Dawson Jockey Club to thank the Racing Queensland infrastructure team for how they managed the project to make sure the job was done right and on time.
“It’s also a credit to the Queensland Government for providing the CRP funding.”
With applications for the second round of CRP funding recently closing, RQ received applications for a further 200 projects – worth more than $10.5 million – which are presently being reviewed.
