RACE TWO
This looms as a great contest and the speed looks to be on all the way. He may be 1st up for over 6 months, yet SLICE OF HEAVEN (11) is the class runner. Only 3m from the winner TENNYSON BROMAC last start before being sent for a break, he has opened the pipes with a pair of Redcliffe trials. He can make it win 20 as he brings up a half-century of starts here. COLOMBIAN GOLD (3) has the fitness edge and can look to bounce back to winning form here. Her run was full of merit last start from gate 7 after burning early. Beaten in consecutive runs up the passing lane in recent outings, she can look to stave them off and will be setting a hot tempo. WEEDONS EXPRESS (1) has been in nice touch of late and was a winner here 5 starts back when charging home to arrive over the 2138m. Placed 3 starts back, he was luckless last start and with a cosy trip can look to fire a closing shot in the stretch. PACIFIC DRUMS (7) speared across to take up the lamp lighting duties last start in a qualifier. Looking to hold on, he had to settle for 3rd when collared in the stretch. He can be thereabouts. SELECTIONS: SLICE OF HEAVEN (11), COLOMBIAN GOLD (3), WEEDONS EXPRESS (1), PACIFIC DRUMS (7) SUGGESTED BET: SLICE OF HEAVEN (11) to win
RACE THREE
HANDSOME HERO (9) started from gate 1 last time out and soon found himself buried 3 back along the inside over the mile. Looking for space, he never had a decent crack at them when only 5m from the winner CHERRYS THE BEST. Luckless the start prior from gate 7, he just needs a rub of the green to open his Qld account. HEART OF COOPER (10) makes his Qld debut for Vicki Rasmussen and arrives with 8 victories and 8 minors to his name in 30 outings. He faces a tough gate again here after his past 6 have all been from the 2nd line. A tidy winner when swooping late at Wagga 5 runs back, he stays under notice. THE DOORMAN (1) found the front from gate 4 here 2 starts back and setting a sharp tempo couldn’t see it out when mid-field to JOHNNY WHITE. Not suited when snagged back last start, he will give them something to chase. SOLDIER OF FORTUNE (8) can press through and look to secure the cosy trip here and be ready to offer in the stretch. He couldn’t work into last start at Redcliffe but will appreciate proceedings here.
SELECTIONS: HANDSOME HERO (9), HEART OF COOPER (10), THE DOORMAN (1), SOLDIER OF FORTUNE (8) SUGGESTED BET: HANDSOME HERO (9) to win
RACE FOUR OASIS DREAM (4) found a suitable assignment here on Tues and from gate 11 circled them early to assume the chair and packed too many guns to claim the prize. From the improved alley he can again look to press forward and with this not much harder can look for the repeat dose. SIGNORINA JUJON (7) doesn’t receive any favours from this alley but is going well enough to chime into proceedings. Forced to do it the tough way last start over the 2138m trip, she was forced wider when the leader lugged up the track. A tidy 3rd over the sprint trip 2 starts back, she is in the mix. RED TERROR (5) steps out in Qld for the 1st time for Mac Rees, arriving with sound Sydney form. Grabbed in the closing stages at Penrith 2 starts back as a red figure fav, he stays under notice. SIRIUS VICKI (8) will need a slice of luck from this gate, but if able to see space with track to work with, can make a closing play. Not too far from CALLMEDEMARO last start, she will be probing.
SELECTIONS: OASIS DREAM (4), SIGNORINA JUJON (7), RED TERROR (5), SIRIUS VICKI (8) SUGGESTED BET: OASIS DREAM (4) to win
RACE FIVE
Starting fav in all 5 starts since arriving in Qld, WITH THE BAND (11) has repaid the punters faith with victory in 4 of those outings. Her only miss came when driven from back in the pack after restraining from gate 7 over the 2138m 2 starts back. Sent forward last start from gate 5, she bounced back with a bang and can power to the prize again here. B MAC C (6) was shooting for 3 on the bounce here last week over this trip when he was just hampered at the wrong stage. Moving up 3-wide the leader rolled up the track and cost him his momentum in a chain-reaction. Charging once balanced up, it was full of merit under the circumstances and he can bounce back. MAJOR LUCKY (2) went to the pegs from a 2nd line gate last start and worked home well to grab the bronze behind LIVING GRAND. Firing the 1st shot here, he can go close again here. DE VOYAGE (3) took on a mares qualifier last start when making an error in the early stages. Resetting back in the pack, she really charged home when only 4m from the winner. Runner-up to CHERRYS THE BEST the start prior, she is a big threat.
SELECTIONS: WITH THE BAND (11), B MAC C (6), DE VOYAGE (3) MAJOR LUCKY (2) SUGGESTED BET: WITH THE BAND (11) to win
RACE SIX CLOVER LOU (3) started off a 40m tape here 3 starts back and despite a few skips at take-off, caught the field and had the power to overhaul them in the stretch. She faded out last start when put into a handy position and forgiving that run, can find a cosy trip here to turn around her fortunes. MAJESTIC SIMON (10) was given plenty of time to balance up in the early stages last week when not pushed from his 30m tape. Asked for the effort from the 300m, he was really winding up in the stretch to be within 2m of the winner. Taking plenty of benefit from that run after returning from a spell, he looms large here. SKYLINE (6) made a mess of things 2 starts back and was banished to extreme outside as a result. Sent forward after a clean start last week, he was too strong in the breeze and can feature again. HEART OF CHANGE (9) put it all together again last week from the 30m tape and worked home in great order to claim the prize. With the right cart home, look for her chiming in again.
SELECTIONS: CLOVER LOU (3), MAJESTIC SIMON (10), SKYLINE (6), HEART OF CHANGE (9) SUGGESTED BET:
RACE SEVEN
Starting fav in her heat last week, HAVANA MAGIC (3) was sent forward after a safe beginning to take up the death seat duties. Fading out to be well-beaten, it might pay to forgive the run. That was her 1st outing in 35 days and had followed a tough win from a 20m tape over this trip. She can atone. ZOOMALONG JOHNNY (2) has been runner-up in both starts since arriving in Qld, the latest in the 1st round heats where he was attacking the line strongly to get within a head of THE REAPER. That followed an eye-catcher when powering home behind REIGN ON ME. A win is imminent for the 9YO. IM THE COMMANDO (9) was cleanly away from the 30m tape and punching through along the inside settled 3 pegs in transit. He will need to maximise his points to progress to the final and has claims. DOWN UNDER RORS (4) settled in the 1x1 trail last week when closing out nicely for the bronze when 3m in arrears of the winner. That followed a solid effort when beaten his handicap behind the in-form REIGN ON ME and he is in the mix again.
SELECTIONS: HAVANA MAGIC (3), ZOOMALONG JOHNNY (2), IM THE COMMANDO (9), DOWN UNDER RORS (4) SUGGESTED BET: DOWN UNDER RORS (4)
RACE EIGHT THE REAPER (1) was kept fresh heading into this series and stepping straight to the front in his heat was able to fight them off to claim the prize. Beaten by the 20m tape at his final start prior to the freshen, he will be further tightened from last week and with his great manners will give them something to chase. MELPARK MAGIC (3) has been runner up at his past 2 starts, the latest in last week’s heat when 4m in arrears of HEART OF CHANGE. 2 starts back he was only 3m from the in-form MONORAIL where he beat home HEART OF CHANGE off equal marks. He can throw down a strong challenge in this. MUSCULUS (10) has the 30m tape to overcome but will bring in added fitness from the 1st round heats where he claimed the silver when 2m from the winner SKYLINE. 1st up from a 5-week gap, he will be thereabouts. AVEROSS DON (6) claimed victory here 2 starts back when finishing strongly from a 10m tape to edge out JEDDY R YA REDDY. Working home in nice style last start, he can be chiming in late again.
SELECTIONS: THE REAPER (1), MELPARK MAGIC (3), MUSCULUS (10), AVEROSS DON (6) SUGGESTED BET: Exotics 1-3-6-10
