Brittany Graham will pay tribute to John Crowley at Albion Park tomorrow night by driving in the colours of the former Queensland Harness Racing Board Chairman after he passed away yesterday.
For decades, the Graham family and Crowley, who led the sport in the Sunshine State at the turn of the century, had been intertwined on and off the racecourse, sharing a bond that spilled over decades and generations.
On social media, Linda Graham shared the family’s grief, posting that his ‘blood may not have touched any of us but that made him no less family.’
In a loving tribute, Linda said:
“Today we are saddened to hear of the passing of the original Graham Stable supporter John Crowley. John started out as Darrel’s boss and became his major owner and then friend, confidant and fishing mate. John was the Chairman of the QHRB for many years and was a man who made a decision. Love him or hate him, he earned everyone’s respect and stood by his decisions.”
Along the journey, winners flowed for Darrel Graham with the likes of Lexie Lad, Lord Of The North, The Mirage and Torado Stone amongst others.
And Crowley was a big part of that success.
Brittany will drive in the ‘Crowley colours’ in five races tomorrow night, whilst black armbands will also be adorned as a sign of respect to the prominent administrator and owner.
“The Queensland racing industry is saddened to learn of the passing of John Crowley,” Racing Queensland CEO Brendan Parnell said.
“He was a strong and passionate supporter of the code which continued long after he had concluded his tenure as Chairman of the Queensland Harness Racing Board.
“He enjoyed considerable success on the track and our condolences extend to his wife, Judy, and the entire Crowley family.”
Tomorrow’s 10-race card at Albion Park commences at 5.13pm with Brittany Graham set to team up with her sister, Stephanie Graham, aboard Dream To Share (NZ).
Racing Queensland extends its sincere condolences to the Crowley family.
